Breakfasts at the Balmoral are always a surprise - you never quite know what you'll get. One Sunday you may get the fastest service, while the next there'll be none. Luckily the food is always spot-on and I can't recommend the eggs benedict highly enough. Lovely to sit outside on a warm morning.

There are quite a number of Han's cafes around Perth, and this is one of the most popular. The menu is gargantuan, as are the portions, and the prices are super cheap. Service is mixed depending on when you visit. The noodle soups are always a winner.

A big friendly trattori-style restaurant, Sienna's is a perennial fave with everyone. Families get there early to take advantage of the indoor playground and kids' menu, and there is always at least one big, rowdy table. Generous portions and super-friendly staff. Go on a cheap night for 1/2 price.

Enter this funky little pocket of Victoria Park and you could be forgiven for thinking you were on Melbourne's Fitzroy St or Brunswick St. The breakfasts were large and organic, the staff edgy (in a good way) and I can't wait to get back there to sample the extensive tapas menu.

This has to be one of the best Japanese restaurants in Perth. It spurns the traditional 3 course menu and instead encourages a more social dining experience with a type of Japanese tapas - small tasting portions that are so creative and fresh you will find yourself ordering more and more. Exceptional.

This is a large, glass restaurant nestled into a corner of the QV1 building and is one of the most well-known Japanese restaurants in the CBD. Clearly catering to the business crowd, the service was average, the food was okay and the ambiance was minimal. Okay for a quick eat on the run.

Having visited this restaurant several times in the past, it was disappointing to be met with little to no service and poor-grade dishes. The sashimi was overly fishy and the tempura oil was old. We also needed to ask for absolutely everything, when we could grab a waiter's attention. A shame.

There are two areas for dining in this venue - downstairs offers a fairly wide selection of tapas for sharing with a group, and upstairs is for more intimate affairs. Downstairs is rowdy, with barely a man standing by the end of the night but still a lot of fun. Upstairs is more formal. Something for everyone.
