The name says it all - Yuckey. There are some restaurants that should not be allowed to call themselves such. This was your local takeaway Japanese at restaurant prices. This used to be a Chinese Restaurant which might have been quite decent given the chef and waiters were Chinese. The only thing Japanese about this restaurant was the fake bonsai when you first walk in.

Great expectations from reading The Age Cheap Eats. Dishes were overdone taking away from the flavours of the produce itself. While overall the dishes were nice, they were not representative of Japan with too much fusion and mix of cuisine - Saganaki with wakame seaweed and iceberg lettuce. 5.5 out of 10, not rushing back there.

This review is for Bok Choy, Brighton VIC

We recently went to Bok Choy for Sunday Yum Cha. There were probably 2 other tables there and seemed the restaurant was struggling to get customers in - there is a big banner outside saying Yum Cha daily. The yum cha variety was limited with 2 selections we had 'running out' aka 'not available as they do not have the variety the used to'. Service was slow with a half hour wait between yum cha rounds. The decor was also a bit tired and needed a fresh paint job to give it some freshness.

These guys provide excellent service and really love the animals they see, unlike some vets I've been too. The receptionist is lovely and Jane, one of the Veterinians there is so thorough and takes her time to diagnose the symptons. They also make follow up calls to make sure things are going well which is a lovely touch. I would strongly recommend them.

This vet specialises in eye care for animals, in particular dogs. Our dog is a frequent 'visitor' and had eye surgery here after being diagnosed with Glaucoma. The care for the surgery was a good experience with the vet providing detailed explanation of the condition. Only gripe is the time of the appointment is usually never kept and you usually have to wait up to 30-40 minutes after your appointment time. There is a note to say that if YOU are late to your appointment, they will still charge.

This review is for Lulo Restaurante, Hawthorn VIC

Great tapas style dishes and big variety of spainish beers and wine. Although I usually never order dessert, this is a must at Lulo. The tapas dessert has great variety like brulee, mousse, sorbet but do not go past the churros with chocolate dip! Service here is friendly and food comes out quite quickly.

Beautiful food but extremely pricey. Just recently had a christmas dinner there and would have to say one of the best meals I have had for a while. The Smoked Salmon terrine and Eye Fillet cooked rare but perfection. Drinks were extremely pricey with most beers costing $15 each and a bottle of Veuve (in which we had 5) was $170 each!

This review is for Ripples Seafood & BBQ Restaurant, Malvern VIC

Good local chinese restaurant with consistent quality. Yum cha is good but could do with more variety. It does get quite busy on the weekends so booking is recommended. They have the peking ducks and pork hanging near the window and fish swimming live in the tanks. This is one Chinese restaurant where you won't go home feeling like you've just swallowed a bag of salt.

This review is for Hako Japanese Restaurant, Melbourne VIC

verified email - 10 Dec 2009

Hako is the best Japanese available! The service is friendly, although a bit slow when busy. There is a chef special menu daily and the creative dishes are fantastic. My favourite is the Ponzu sauce Oysters and Uni (sea urchin) in the Sashimi platter (not always available). Authentic Japanese, with authentic Japanese chefs and waitresses/waiters.

If you are looking for good quality, fresh and cheap Indian, this is the place. Filled with Indian students and workers, it is authentic Indian. Serves are reasonable and value for money. The Chicken 65 is fantastic and so is the Butter Chicken. Worth trying, you'll definitely become a regular.
