This review is for Lonely Pets Club, Melbourne VIC

10 Feb 2013

Having two four legged family members going away on holidays was difficult not having helpful neighbors or family members living in the area. I discovered Lonely Pets Club when I saw one of their vans driving around. The name interested me and I googled. Anyhow we decided to try them after reading what their services included. We were contacted after filling out web site details and as it was our first time using the service the lady going to mind our boys came over to familiarize herself with us and our requirements. She arrived ontime and was lovely. She recorded what we wanted, feed dogs, food kept here, leads there, take bins out this night, water that plant etc., so we felt comfortable and good to go on our holiday. While we were away we received a phone call to tell us our boys were doing well and everything was good at home. On our return all seemed good, bins empty, mail brought in, plants still alive and most importantly our dogs healthy and happy. We used the service again the next year and it was a different lady minding our dogs and home but she was equally as professional and reliable and we were totally happy once again. Would highly recommend from our experience.

We have been to this cafe on a few occasions. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. The decor is quite dark so makes the cafe feel smaller than it is, the use of mirrors helps although it could do with a lighter coat of paint to brighten the place up. As a bonus cafe is on a corner on busy High St, so there is usually parking down side street which is handy.

This review is for Buckley's Chance, Sorrento VIC

Imagine holiday season and every man and his family hungry and looking for a seat - well after walking up and down the Main Street in Sorrento we were back at Buckley Chance. I'd first seen this place easily 20 years ago but never been in. We looked out front and it was full, then inside and full too. By chance we noticed a huge group coming out then realized there was also a rear dining section to this restaurant and went in and grabbed a booth which comfortably seated the 4 adults and 3 pre-teen boys. The staff were surprisingly friendly and attentive in such a busy place with every table almost to capacity. The menu was varied from breakys of bacon eggs to foccacias and pancakes. Everyone on the table ordered something different, the pancakes my hubby ordered with mixed berries looked to die for, my chicken foccacia was average but tasted ok and coffee great! We all enjoyed it so much that I returned a week later with hubby and son and this time I had a pancake breaky with crispy bacon which was yum and hubby and son both had pancakes which they both enjoyed. The place is very busy which I'm sure is seasonal, the staff are attentive even with the restaurant at capacity. Definitely recommend. Price was reasonable and expected during holiday season.

This review is for PIZZA D'oh, Blairgowrie VIC

Having a holiday house in the area we looked for a local pizza restaurant and this is pretty much it. Have been a few times for take away and eaten in once. First visit was takeaway. The toppings were fresh and tasty however the pizzas are very pricey when your used to Melbourne prices expect to pay double to tripple of that. Our experience dining in was not bad, we were apparently too late to order anything other than pizza, however people on table next to us who had different waitress ordered from rest of menu, but by that stage we were starving and our wine had come. Again pizza was fresh and tasty, having a selection of the regular as well as some creative gourmet choices. Would definitely like to get there a bit earlier and order from the rest of menu as what was on other diners plates looked good.

This review is for Fuji Teppanyaki, Moonee Ponds VIC

Fun and food combined with great service. I took my husband and son here for lunch for husbands birthday. The restaurant was quiet as it was a week day but the service was great, very attentive and chatty staff, having a joke and laugh and watching the teppanyaki chef strut his stuff on the grill was fun. The chefs put on an interactive show and diners get to catch food in their mouths and bowls so not a place to wear your finest attire. As it was hubby's birthday they surprised him with a fried ice cream ball and samari sword to cut it and also provided a photo of the moment. Have also been with a group of 16 made up with both adults and kids and everyone thoroughly enjoyed both food and entertainment. There are a few set menus to choose and it might seem expensive but you don't go home hungry and food couldn't be any fresher - it's cooked in front of you! Will definitely be going back again as was the consensus of all my friends.

Personally I hate smorgasbord restaurants. I hate to line up, it feels like feeding time in the barn. I've been to this restaurant only in groups for a few occasions. There are from what I'm aware two sittings, I've never made the booking so you have a time to turn up and OMG cattle crush to get in and pay. Anyhow when you have your table you go grab a plate and dish up. I was surprised the first time I went and somewhat enjoyed the food, the majority of my food was from the carvery and vegie end, I left the fried chips and calamari section to the masses lined up for them. Food was tasty and not as bad as expected. Dessert by the time I got there looked like it had been attacked and there was hardly anything so I went without. My next visit to this restaurant was with group of friends and their kids, the kids enjoyed managing their food intake but enjoyed the play area below which can be viewed by rotating views on TV screens in restaurant, however kids still need supervision. Food this time seemed on par with previous visit. My third visit was christmas lunch. Family member who's turn it was to host selected this as option over home entertaining. The food was much better than on a normal day, the range of seafood was fantastic and I felt like I'd eaten the ocean bare by the time we left, everyone enjoyed especially the women who usually spend all day preparing the food. We served ourselves but all plates quickly removed and fresh plates available for next round. Even though time limit with visiting this place we all truly enjoyed the Christmas lunch there in a relaxed atmosphere, was not busy and plenty of space as many tables vacant.

This review is for Alasya Turkish Restaurant, Brunswick VIC

09 Feb 2013

Have been going to this Turkish restaurant and take away for just on 20 years. The decor never changes and could do with a makeover. Service is mediocre, my experience has been some wait staff will take your order correctly and others not as well :) The menu is very long and when my son was little we went there regularly and the same order week to week would come out slightly different. The bread made on site is good and keeps coming and the meats good too. Very inexpensive night out and you won't leave hungry. The take away doner kebabs are the best I've tasted in the area and the dips are good. For the sweet tooth there are a huge variety of Turkish sweets available on display and in take home packs at a modest price. During winter can be a chilly place so rug up.
On Friday and Saturday a flower seller does the rounds so if your on a date be prepared to possibly buy a rose or stuffed toy for your lady. Overall cheap filling tasty food in a not so intimate setting.

This review is for Dimattina Coffee, Reservoir VIC

Hidden off Edwards street in a factory setting is Dimattina Coffee. I only found this place by a small sign they had out on Edwards street one day. Inside you can buy freshly roasted coffee beans at an affordable price. They also have a small cafe and the coffee is very good and they offer a few food items but this is minimal. The shop also sells packaged food products and coffee related items from manual machines and espresso makers to jugs, cups and tampers. The stock seems to change and at Easter and Christmas they often have gift hampers with Gourmet products for sale. I've been buying coffee both ground and beans here for a few years now and have always been pleased as well they offer a loyalty card so every 500grams of beans you buy you get a stamp, after 10 stamps you get a free 500gram of beans which is a great incentive.

Went with a group of 10 for dinner. Restaurant is quite noisey but it is probably because of the way the place is decorated, it all echos. The menu has a lot of choices. Our waitress was a bit overwhelmed as her English was minimal but she took our order and seemed to re confirm it however it was wrong and she missed a few of the pizzas ordered? However this was rectified. All the food was good and very large serves only downside was the items came out in wrong order but that too I think was waitresses minimal English. Our friends with us had been before and had a different experience with service. Overall food yum, service could be improved. Will try it again maybe with smaller group. Very much a family restaurant.

This review is for Ballerinis Pizza, Reservoir VIC

This used to be our favorite place to dial for pizza. The toppings were always good, service always good, no problems. The last few times we have had the pizza from here it's been terrible. Lost pizzas in transit, uncooked dough, poor quality toppings. Really gone downhill unsure if has been sold and new owners but it is a total 180degree flip in quality. Needs to improve.
