5 reviews about Victorian Equestrian Centre

Time to review the VEC since the new owners have done the most incredible upgrade and total makeover to the property. Now all you see are happy healthy horses and paddocks. There is a wonderful peaceful vibe there and can now be called one of the best equestrian facilities in the state. 10/10

The owner passed away & his relatives are running the place. To be fair to the previous owner there were major issues, however I did have three lessons at the place and the instructor was fine. The horse was also fine, however I was concerned he was underweight. I didnt check his feet. Some of the gear was unsafe as girths & stirrup leathers looked like they could break at any moment. Lets hope the relatives can run the place at a higher standard as the place has huge potential

Please do not use this facility.

The owner is completely unknowledgeable about horses and employs young girls with limited capacity to teach safety, horsemanship and riding skills. The instructors are incompetent and dangerous. In fairness to them, they are young girls clearly without adequate role models and are probably doing the best they can with their own limited experience and in unkempt and dangerous facilities.

Two of the instructors we had both appeared to be frightened of horses. The third instructor was a godsend but as I understand was not one of their regular instructors.

The facilities are unfit for humans to stay there. The bunkhouse is adjacent to the indoor arena so fills with dirt and grit and is clearly never cleaned.

The most disturbing aspect of the place is the state of the horses. Most looks like horses purchased from the markets and are underfed to manage behavioural issues. That said, all of the horses did display dangerous behaviours including chronic biting, kicking and general grumpiness. Every horse has poorly treated feet. Those with shoes on were loose and obviously treated by an unskilled farrier. Most of the horses did not have shoes on and their feet were cracked and so long that they had started to curl. The paddocks are filled with loose wire and every fence has at least one strand of wire loose creating dangerous situations for the horses. The hay they feed the horses is mouldy and the chaff and pellets were filled with rat droppings.

I don't know how much they charge for camps and lessons, but whatever the fees, you would do much better to invest in other options for yourself or your children. My advice would be steer well clear of this place.

The VEC is great, don't listen to other reviews. The instructors are wonderful, and will not make you do anything you are uncomfortable with. The holiday camps are amazing the most fun you'll ever have. It is very safe and the school horses are happy, they don't bite or kick or buck. That is a really great place to learn safely and build up confidence.

Are you crazy?? Are you a long term VECer or something perhaps? I used to agist there and it is scary how accurate the below comment is - my horse was impossible to catch, he was never properly fed and always skinny, badly behaved which was not his nature, and the owner is a complete idiot. Also, whacking horses and screaming at them is normal, swearing at them and treating them like shit is ok, and what do you MEAN the school horses don't kick, bite or buck? Almost all of them do all of the above almost all of the time! They are ALL severely girthy and get VERY aggressive and I personally have been bitten on 3 seperate occasions either helping or passing a horse getting it’s girth done up. I have witnessed on two occasions rear hooves miss a childs head by millimetres and I have witnessed horses in severe pain bucking or humping to try and get a message across. These are chronically unhappy and uncomfortable horses and very very uneducated, abusives agisters and instructors. I’ve never seen such lack of care for a horses wellbeing. Instructors should know what they are doing before they teach others because they are making the horse world an intolerable one. I am very grateful that I am out of there and I cannot believe the things I saw... horses do not deserve it and children do not deserve to learn that this is OK. 100% bullcrap.

I agisted my horse there for a few months as i needed an indoor arena. Owner knows nothing about horses and is rude as well, uses teenagers to run the place for him. Paddocks over-run with weeds. Lesson horses are poorly kept. Stables are unable to be used in current condition. My horse became very hard to catch in the paddock while being agisted there, i still dont know what happened to him. I left as soon as i could. He should sell up to someone who can run it properly, it has so much potential..... until then... Avoid Avoid Avoid!

i agree totally, not a place for your children to learn as the horses are poorly kept and the instructors teenagers with little guidance
