Love the design of this place, set a really nice ambience. Food was delicious and at a reasonable price.
One of the best places to get hot dogs in the city. I love the Breaking Bad hot dog with a side of fries or the un-cut salad with poached chicken, avocado and haloumi. Both are delicious. The courtyard is so pretty to sit in during summer and the staff are very nice.
I cool american diner styled eatery, but with quality food and a non-tacky atmosphere. Order american and southern classics, ie. burgers, milkshakes done the old way, etc.
Trunk has that wow factor for people new to Melbourne. Waiters are professionally dressed and the selection of beers / wines is first class. Cheaper snack food options make it a great drop in and have a few drinks.
Ate here with friends while visiting Melbourne & the whole experience was awesome. The service we recieved was second to none & the food was amazing....certainly not your average diner food!

This is fantastic value for the quality of food and service you get here. The outdoor area is great as it is spacious, but with only a few tables, just enough for the work function we had. I was impressed by the prices on the menu. The salads are $10 plus a few dollars extra depending on which meat you would like to add to it. Their burgers looked nice, and am hoping to try them next time I come here. Fantastic value and great tasting food!
Came here for drinks only. It's got great atmosphere - you can sit inside or in the plastic covered area outside, or actually outside in a garden like area. Everytime I've been here I attempted to get the apple pie, but it wasn't on the menu at those specific times.. Maybe one day!
Lunched here on a cold weekday in July. Although the diner is in a plastic walled annexe to the restaurant proper, it wasn't draughty or cold. The service was friendly and helpful, even when a burger was sent back for being underdone. Food was good and reasonably priced.

Came here on a saturday night for dinner with friends. Food came out quite quick. We had a couple of pizzas to share at the start and they were all great, nice base and toppings. For my main I had the gnocchi with napoli sauce. They were homemade and just a touch too soft, but still great tasting. The sauce was nice but a bit too much parsley, apart from that it was a yummy dish and could have been a bit bigger as a main.
For dessert I had the pear and ginger pudding, was delicious. Our waitress was great, always topping up our water. The only bad thing I could say was that the noise level was really annoying, because its a restaurant/bar on a Saturday night we had to really scream to have a conversation.
Ever-ready to find a nice lunch location, I read about Trunk Diner in one of the newspapers. Despite the review, which wasn't terribly well written, I filed Trunk Diner away in my mind as a potential lunch location.
It wasn't long before my brother and I decided that lunch out would be nice, so off to Trunk it was. Trunk Diner is actually housed in a plastic-sided addition to a refurbished synagogue, so be sure that you enter where the sandwich board says Diner, not through the gates of the restaurant proper (though I don't imagine that it makes a difference as the two seem to share the garden space happily).
I wouldn't call the food at Trunk Diner real diner food, more a refined expression of the diner spirit. Servings are small (but satisfying), like the Wagyu burger served on a brioche roll. I thought I was sick of the whole Wagyu burger fad, but this juicy, medium-rare burger made me think that maybe there was something to all this fuss after all...
The Cuban sandwich is also excellent - made with a shatteringly crisp baguette rather than the traditional Cubano roll that you'd find in Miami. What's not to like about delicious pulled pork, cheese and chipotle mayonaise?
The only mar on the entire experience was the lengthy wait to service. There were three staff waiting on the 5 or 6 tables inside, plus the people who chose to sit outside. It was 15 minutes before our order was taken, a further 15 before our drinks arrived and 20 more for our food. By then, we were almost worried that my brother would be late back to school, and indeed, one table had enough of the waiting and elected to take their food away, presumably to eat back at their offices. Hopefully, this was a bit of a hiccup rather than a regular occurrence, though it'll take a few more trips there to see if this is the case.
Not that this is a bad thing, of course, I've already decided what I'm having next time...
