This business should be called "La Tragedy". My visit on Saturday for a special function with friends I had not dined with for some time was a total disaster........... A booking had been made 6 weeks before the event. So we were placed at a table where there was no overhead lighting, unlike every other table in the restaurant, it was also in a main thoroughfare where each and every waitperson and drinksperson had to walk past with trays of drinks and plates of meals lifted above the heads of my guests. When asked staff had stated that "we were just allocated a table at random, and there is nothing we can do!". Yet on 2 ocassions after the complaint was made there were empty tables to accommodate my guests and I, yet these were given to patrons that walked in on the night. The meals were definitely uneven in quality and presentation, as if they were prepared by several different staff. There was a child's spaghetti bolognaise that had shredded beef and pasta with a heavily watered down sauce. It looked like more like a dog's meal rather than something you feed to a human.... When I ordered my sirloin steak I enquired about what sauces come with it and the waitpersons response floored me!!!!! "Chef does not put sauces onto this steak" Well who is paying for the meal????????? Definitely NOT Chef............. There were also 2 other fish dishes that had a HHUUGGEE difference in appearance. The Salmon meal was flooded with a tomato sauce and the Blue Eyed Cod was devoid of any sauces or garnishes. The Fritto Misto was appalling, you could have brought a better variety of seafood downstairs at the Bistro for half the price. Top this with the waitperson then recommending the cheapest bottle of wine on the wine list, which tasted dry and definitely not suitable with any of the dishes served. The desserts were barely passable as "cheap foodcourt fare". They also reflected the lack of attention to presentation and any consistency for sizing. It then took the staff 3 attempts to get the order correct for desserts.
Waitstaff need serious training in the correct ettique of serving and removing plates on the the table, they also need training on customer service, on how to handle customer enquiries. Any attempt by myself or one of guests to have a problem corrected was like the mating of elephants....done with a great deal of fanfare, and takes 3 years (a long time) to get a result... At no time did a supervisor or Chef even come to the table to speak to myself, vague off handed replies were returned via sheepish waitstaff.
All this to a long term member who quite frankly was embarrassed no end in front of my friends.
The one and only saving grace was the selection of mixed breads served at the beginning.
It would a huge effort for me to even consider to go back, let alone comment on this establishment.
Rarely do I feel compelled to write on an open forum a bad review, however it was blatantly obvious on the night we were being "brushed off" as whingers and had no place there. It has to said that this experience has left a seriously bad impression with me for this establishment. It would need a major improvement to be anywhere near a satisfactory standard.
As a regular visitor to the Belmont 16's I found their fresh menu to be flexible, unpretentious and definitely served in an appealing manner with even standard of dish sizes and quality.
Finally, I do occupy my time as a paid Service Standard Auditor for a number of retailers, prestige food outlets and premium accomodation establishments and this would have to be the poorest standard set for a food outlet that I have ever experienced over the past 3 years.

Approximate cost: $360
