Huge English Pub, but very nice food and atmosphere I have found is good. You get big serves and they have quite an extensive menu (especially for a pub). Has the home-made feel with the food, but thats half the reason you go. The resturant area is seperate to the rest of the pub so you dont have to put up with too many loud drunken noises.

i HAD TO WRITE A REVIEW FOR UNI - I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE IT WITH YOU

BOOKING: I rang earlier in the day and after a brief wait while I listened to a recorded promotional message, I spoke to Clare. She took a booking for 7.00pm in an efficient and obliging manner.

BAR: We arrived at approximately 6.40pm. The tavern seemed busy and lively and we soon realised that there was a private function in progress at one end of the bar. We made our way to the quieter end, closer to the restaurant and ordered drinks from Joanna who was pleasant and obliging. She checked our table number and set up a tab for us. We enjoyed a leisurely drink in attractive surroundings and could see that the bar was well staffed, clean looking and efficiently run.

RESTAURANT: At 7.00pm we waited at the appropriate place to be shown to our table for dinner. We'd already noticed a person called Fleur who was clearly the Maitre D moving around in a brisk and efficient manner and looking very good in her role. The Maitre D was charming and clearly explained the things we needed to know. We were asked if we'd like water and this arrived promptly and nicely served.

we went to the counter to order an entrée, two mains and two glasses of wine. The entrée of Bruschetta arrived promptly, served by Tori. It was attractively served and tasty. Plates were removed before the main courses arrived. We weren't asked if we were ready for our mains but the spacing of the two courses was appropriate.

Our choices of mains were fillet steak and squid salad. Both were attractively served beautifully cooked and very tasty. I would have liked a little less chilli in the squid salad but I realise that's a matter of personal taste. We weren't offered cracked pepper, although we saw someone at another table receiving it. At one point the Maitre D checked to make sure that our meals were satisfactory, which they most certainly were.

While we were eating we could see that as tables turned over they were cleared and re-set very promptly.

We were offered dessert menus by Tori and ordered an apple crumble. It took a while to come but that was no problem because we weren't in any hurry. We also ordered coffees which were good.

Just before we left we checked the toilets. The ladies' toilets were in very good condition
Our account was settled by Sam who was lovely and chatty and finished the night off in a charming manner for us.
We enjoyed our evening very much and gained the impression that this is a well-run tavern with a very pleasant and conscientious staff. We'd had the opportunity to see the place functioning on a busy night and all in all, we were very impressed with what we saw.

Love this pub great atmosphere plenty of different things going on through the week. Karaoke, quiz night etc. Awesome range of alcohol, Hoeegarrden on tap! The bottle shop always has great prices and the staff are always really cheerful. Can't beat the mushrooms in the restaurant.

I went there one time
The band was good Slim Jim and the Fats were playing
Looked like some one was getting married or just got married dancing on the floor and on tables
There dance floor is only really small and my friend wanted to dance but there was no room
Staff were handing out shots of something not sure what it was They walked past a few times and i tried to get there attention to ask them what it was but they were to busy i guess
Its not my kind of place but have heard others say they go there all the time and its nice so its a personal choice and all nights are different

I am a big fan of the Whale & Ale. Best surf and turf ive had in a long time! Recently went there with a group of 6 women and we all ordered different meals and were all so impressed! The girls at the till were happy to go through what meals contained. Was a bit of a let down that we could order drinks while we paid for dinner

Approximate cost: $28.00

Karaoke night and quiz night is lots of fun but the restaurant food is average and the service isn't great. The pub attracts alot of the English butler crowd, mostly over 40 so its not exactly hip but the pub does look great and is nice for a weeknight beer.

Approximate cost: $25
