This place is great some of the yummiest food in Launceston and you can't go past the fish bowls it's really an attraction real authentic charm and great atmosphere the staff are terrific and very friendly the dishes are all generous portions and are always fresh

I have been here quite a few times over the years - mostly with large groups for celebrations. We enjoy the fact that they have fishbowls, and that they have a happy hour around dinner (I think its 5:30-6:30)

This year we booked the room downstairs for a birthday celebration with about 30 guests. The staff were very helpful and attentive for the entire night. They came around for drink orders regularly, offered to help with the cake, took some group photos for us, etc.

The meals were served extremely quickly which was a big surprise given the large number of us - and they were steaming hot and fresh, as well as delicious as always.

It was not a problem for everyone to pay separately at the end and it is a huge bonus that they do not charge cakeage, yet they still provide plates and a knife for the cake.

I would strongly recommend the Prickly Cactus for any occasion but especially for group bookings.

I've lost count of how many times I have dined here over the years. The meals are amazing, full of flavor, generous sizes and affordable. I am always satisfied when leaving, the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is at times crowded as they have attempted to maximize the space but everyone is there having a good time so the atmosphere is great

By far the best Mexican restaurant in Tasmania, the food is always sizzling hot and tastes fresh full of flavor. They offer light meals for the light hearted. Meals aren't cheap but at the same time they aren't over priced either. They have a great selection with the drinks menu and my wife seems to be a fan of the fish bowls

I love this place, I always take any of our guests for dinner here and I am yet to find anyone who cant find a dish on the menu to suit their preferences. The meals are cooked to order so are always fresh, during peak times you may wait a little while for your meal but the atmosphere and selection of fish bowl drinks is a pleasant distraction.
We have even taken our young children for a mid week meal and staff were more than accommodating to make our family feel like valued customers

The Prickly Cactus is the first mexican restaurant that i've been to, and I was pleasantly surprised. They had a good range of dishes, more than just what i'd think of as classically mexican. I shared a make-your-own beef and prawn burrito dish, and you could tell how fresh the ingredients were, and well cooked. The waiter even noticed that my boyfriend and I were sharing and offered us some extra wraps. Although I did not order one, I have heard of the huge fish-bowl cocktails they make, which I will definitely have to try sometime. Highly recommended.

We stumbled on this little place over the Easter long weekend when we found it was one of the few places open on Good Friday and boy are we glad we did.

From the moment we walked in the staff were friendly and attentive as well as making some really helpful suggestions.

I enjoyed what were arguably the best Chimmychangas I have ever eaten and my wife raved about the seafood & avocado dish she ordered.

Serving sizes were generous and pricing was very reasoable. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is a nice little place, great for a cool winter (or Launceston summer!) night.

I went with my brother, and the staff greeted us warmly and remained friendly all night.
The menu had all of the normal Mexican food. We had a serve of 'cactus bread' for our entree, it was alright. My main of nachos was great, and it was a very hearty serve. My brother's meal was alright... I didn't pay too much attention to his main as we just had our daily argument!

The people at the table next to ours had a kid (maybe 12 years old) who ate with his mouth open. It was annoying and distracting, and I couldn't help but (death)stare at him!

We didn't have dessert, but our neighbours did, and it looked good.

I'd go again, even though I am not a major fan of Mexican.

On a freezing cold July evening, my father, boyfriend and I were staying in Launceston on a holiday from Sydney. We found this gem of a restaurant. As soon as we walked in we felt instantly warm, like we were part of summer. This was due to a combination of the latin pop songs, the warm decor, the heating and the friendly welcome from the staff. I ordered a Margarita and the Pollo, Dad ordered a Chilli Beer (Yum!) and the Avocado Mariscos, and the Boyfriend ordered the delicious Sangria and the Prickly Pairs. We had a taste of each others meals and they were all divine! I've been describing this experience to my friends as "the best food I've ever tasted in my life, I didn't want to let it escape my body." If you're ever in launceston I would highly recommend that you eat here.

A Mexican restaurant - great family restaurant for enjoying a huge range of delicious Mexican dishes. They are open 7 days for dinner, from 5.30pm. Also, lunches Mon - Fri, 12 - 2. There is a wide variety of dishes to choose from, even for children, and good value for the amount and quality of the meals. Great atmosphere - they also have a large room for big groups, so a good place for that special occasion! This is a licensed restaurant, and take aways are also available. Highly recommendid.
