5 reviews about The Plough Hotel

Use to drive by here everyday on the way to work, finally ventured in and was glad I did. Footscray doesn't have many pubs, this is one you can count on. Food is good, service is great and the location is easy to get to. It's an inviting place inside.

A gastropub by style and definition, they serve great modern hearty yet stylish and wholesome plates, with creativity and care. The influences are traditional british pub and modern australian. Local produce also plays a part.
In addition to its fabulous dining room, the plough also acts as a boutique hotel.

After recently undergoing some recent renovations, the Plough is quite the classy establishment. The decor is simple yet chic and does not feel as if you are dining in Footscray when you are there. The service is very attentive and friendly too.

The food is good but nothing i would rave about unfortunately. I felt the prices i paid were way too expensive for the meals. I was excited about the chilli and lime calamari ($23) and decided to go the main size assuming that given that it was a mains serve it would come with a side salad and perhaps maybe even chips. The staff advised that it didn't so i asked to include a side salad - i got iceberg lettuce sprinkled with a bit of parmesan, and an olive oil dressing with lemon rind... It was $12 on the menu... really for iceberg lettuce!

A friend of mine decided to get the chicken parma - a classic pub meal but not for $25... i thought that was pricey for a parma but at least the serving was generous (i stole a few chips off them - they were nice and crunchy).

Despite my issues with the overpricing i did like the calamari (not the side salad as much) and my mates enjoyed their meals as well. It wouldn't be the first place i'd choose to go but i would go back there to give it another go.

Food is great, prompt service and inexpensive. Not a lot of personality in the decor, but it has new owners so this could change. They have just started doing breakfast on the weekends - cheap and good!

This newly renovated pub in Footscray is more "bistro" than "pub". It still offers great pub fare (fantastic woodfire pizza!) and is family friendly.

Approximate cost: $15
