This is not your corner fish & chip shop, this is one of the few places i know of in Brisbane that does Fish & Chips that go beyond. You have a wide selection of fish with a range of choices for how they are cooked. All for less than $15 per person.

This is the place to take friends from abroad looking for great Fish & Chips.

Popped into the Fishmongers wife for lunch. Ordered two battered flake (fish) and chips to eat in. Whilst ordering was easy and the staff polite that's where the positives end. The food arrived on 2 stainless steel platters/dishes. Just the fish and chips chucked on the metal plate (no garnish apart from lemon). As a result everything was soon swimming in oil that was still draining out of the fish. Not sure what they did to the fish but flake should be a light and "flakey" texture. Both pieces were like rubber. Some portions of the fish were so hard I couldn't bite through it and sadly both pieces were like this. The batter was overcooked, oily (now pooled on my metal dish) and tasted terrible. A staff member collected our metal trays and asked how the fish was. When I showed him the "quality" of the fish we had been served his comment was "flake is a very difficult fish to cook". I understand the fishmongers wife won several awards a few years ago, it appears the standards had plummeted since. Do yourself a favor, there are several other fish and chip places close by, give one of those a try as the fishmongers wife deserves a divorce!

i went to a dinner party here last night and it was amazing. service was spot on. we all chose a assortment of seafood's, salads and chip. the seafood was unbelievable fresh and divine to eat. The staff was alway's there if we needed them for anything. it wasn't that busy in the restuarant when we first got there at around 6.30 , though filled up later in the evening.had a fantastic night and totally recommend going for a special occasion as it is a bit pricey, though well worth it

We were invited here for the first time for a friends birthday so being the seafood fanatics that we are, it was a no brainier. We all decided to order different fishes and flavours to try each one as we had never been before. Mum was also impressed as they had a gluten free menu. We had a variety of crumbed, battered and grilled fish and they were deelish!! The beer battered chips were so tasty and some had rice instead of chips. My Thai salad was really nice and a decent size instead of just bunny food. Great drinks service, never had empty glasses and ALL food arrived hot which was a change. A busy atmosphere as there was a lot of diners but that was fine as we had a group booking. And I noticed they have a takeaway order system as well. Great night had by all. Thanks

We went here for dinner on a Wednesday night and our server was lovely. The service was great and she pointed out that they had a special of roast veggies which we could order instead of the salad (which was great as it was a freezing, rainy night).

We ordered S&P calamari, cod & chips and pesto barramundi. The first two meals were great and appropriately priced. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the pesto barrumundi. It cost ten more dollars than the cod and was half the size. I think I was expecting more flavour from it so I feel maybe it was a bit overpriced at $25 (with chips & veggies).

Overall it was a really lovely dinner but I would be more inclined to get a cheaper fish next time as they taste just as good but significantly cheaper. If you're not big on chips then I would recommended one serving per two people as we both left about half our chips each.

Approximate cost: $25

I visited the restaurant with my friend about a year ago when she wanted to introduce me the best fish & chips in Brisbane. She had told me about their rewards, for that reason she persuaded me to try it. I can recall, I enjoyed the dinning experience, however, probably not as much as she did...because I did not feel the urge to go back there since.
I came across reviews of the business on WOMO and decided to give it another shot. Thus, I happened to take my partner there on Sunday. Prior entering the restaurant, he registered a special on noticeboard. Two pieces of hoki fish + chips + small salad or six calamari for $25. So we made the order and paid for it at the entry. As we were entering the restaurant, there was no waiter around for that reason we chose a table on our own.

We did not wait for long. My partner was disappointed about portion size of fish. I personally would not mind it being a slightly bigger but did not dwell on it. I hardly know a place they would serve a bigger portion. I got my fish grilled and he had it crumbled. Grilled one was not greasy as some places make it. His fried fish looked nice too. Battered chips were nice but the top ones were slightly over-salted whereas the bottom ones just right. Fish as well as calamari tasted very fresh. I did enjoy the meal but do not know about it being the best fish & chips in Brisbane as I eat it very rarely.

As it was a matter of us walking to the counter, making an order and payment, I was not able to assess their service. Staff would only bring the meal to us and clean up dishes after our leave. There was no communication between...no check up on us if we enjoyed it. On our way out, I said "see you" to a waiter who was typing something in cashier...he did not respond.

What I really did not like was a noise that was caused by a group of visitors who entered the restaurant when we were in the middle of our meal. They were so loud that I thought myself if they didn't lower their voices I would've had to remind them of being aware of their surroundings.

I would recommend going there for dinning experience but cannot see myself going back there for a while. I think the service that I found being average lowers the overall experience a bit.

We have both eaten in and had takeaway from Fishmongers Wife and are yet to be disappointed. We love the variety of fresh fish on the menu and options to be healthy (have it grilled) through to a little more indulgent (crumbed or battered!) The beer battered chips are delicious, and we can't go past a serve of the chargrilled sweet chilli octopus when we eat in.
Highly recommend Fishmongers for a casual eating experience that delivers consistently every time.

I have only have takeaway but was impressed with their beer battered chips and salad and the cleanliness of the business. They have a wide selection of items on the menu and the staff seem very friendly. You can definately find cheaper places to go but if you want top quality food then this is a great place to go

Visited this eatery yesterday. Was recommended by a friend as it does Gluten free fish and chips. As a Coeliac I don't find many places that cater for a gluten free diet but here they have a separate fryer for gluten free products. So I was able to have snapper battered with a delicious greek salad. They have a choice of salads to go with your meals but I could also get gluten free chips if I wanted.
They have a wide range of fish and sea food products and they also do burgers up until 4pm.
Their menu clearly says what items are gluten free but the staff there are very experienced and lovely to deal with, thus giving me a faith and belief if what they say.
We had take away with our friends but there are tables outside and a restaurant next to the shop if you want to sit in and dine.
Very busy there last night, with people coming and go while we were waiting for our order.
They won a Very Good Food Safety award of 4 stars which inspired me with trust that that is what they are supplying. They are I heart food award 2012 state winners and they are featured in the foodies guide 2012.
All in all the food was delicious and I will definitely be going there again.

After all the hype we'd heard about this place, we decided to give it a try only to be disappointed. It was nice and they had quite an extensive range of fish (and coatings) to choose from but very expensive for the simple fish n chips that we chose. It may be better as an eat-in option but did not overly enjoy the takeaway. Expectations were high though because we had heard such good reviews
