The Excelsior Hotel used to be an awesome place to go for pub meals but I went there last night (4th July 2015) and hadn't been there for 6 months and boy oh boy have they gone downhill. No greeting at the door and no staff to be seen for at least 4 minutes when one casually strolled out of the kitchen and said pick a table. The Chicken Parma is my usual pick and forked over the $25 and took a seat. The wait was around 20 minutes which wasnt too bad but when the meal came out I was lost for words, the chicken parma was half the size it used to be and the chicken was so thin there was more crumbing than chicken. It was extremely dry and I have to saw vigorously with my knife to cut through it. There was a small scattering of chips that tasted ok and the salad in the side bowl was nice despite swimming in a pool of dressing. It was with sadness that I left the hotel for the last time after a good 10 years of decent meals.

Approximate cost: $25

Second go at dinner here after first diappointed visit. Went for dinner on Easter Monday. We waited about 10 minutes at the "wait here to be seated"podium. The bistro was not full but we were given a table right next to the bar were people were constantly walking past or upto to order drinks. There were plenty of vacant tables on other side of the room. Typical pub bistro menu and pricing ws a tad high. Ordered 250gm porterhouse @$30 medium and got it well done and dry. Mains came with salad, or vegtables or chips. Only one choice not chips and salad or chips and veg. vegies were pice brochiolli, piece of pumpkin and 3 small potatoes. The vegies were cooked nicely. Ordered drinks from the bar including a coke zero that was completly flat. I also had to wait while the lady serving me just stopped mid serving me to talk to another staff member, she did not acknowledge that she walked off mid my order and then when I started to finish my order did it again with not even an excuse me for a minute. Had a look at the dessert display while lining up to order and the cakes were so old that the chocolate icing on the mud cake was dry and cracked all over, the lemon centre of the lemon tart had pulled away from the pie pastry and was not a vibrant yellow colour. I asked the lady taking the meal orders at the till next to the display if they were the actual cakes served and she said yes. Really should have left then. i do think that a place can have an off night and should get another go but I am done with this one.

After having read reviews of this hotel on WOMO, I suggested to our friends that we go there one evening for a casual catch-up dinner.

We found the venue to be quite good, our meals were delicious and plentiful on our plates. None of us went hungry.

Will go back again.

Went to the Excelsior for lunch with two of my best mates. I ordered a parmigiana and a glass of coke. The establishment was aesthetically very pleasing with a very modern touch with their interior design.
The meals were delivered very quickly. I don't think I was waiting longer than 4-5 minutes. The parmigiana came with chips and salad. The salad consisted of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and red onion, topped with a dressing. The salad itself was very tasty. The chips were nice and crunchy, thick and full of potato. The parmigiana was delicious.
A enjoyable meal and would definitely go back again!

The Excelsior is a great place to go when you have little children to take out. You can sit right next to the play room and keep an eye on the kids as you sit and relax. There is a range of kids meals available for $8.00 and adults meals are reasonable prices. You do not leave hungry. A good range of entrees, mains and desserts on the menu

Approximate cost: $17-$35.00
