Great little family own and run business. No sales people here, just real people who love rocks and crystals. Their knowledge of rocks is very good and local knowledge is even better.

The price ,service are excellent the best place to shop with all the crystal you need wow awesome everything,is cheap and very good quality products including the jewellery I will recommend this shop to all my friends it's an nice place to shop.

We noticed "The Rock Shop" when walking back from dinner one night... we called in on Sunday morning but it wasn't open. It seems most things around Katoomba are open on weekends but they don't open till 10am or later. We went walking up the street came back it was still closed went to leave and it was open... what I found most frustrating was there are no opening hours in to be seen.. We were leaving on Monday morning but didn't want to hang about not knowing if it was open...

As a collector I was a little disappointed by the range they seem to cater more to the tourist trade with stone jewellery and polished tumble stones and carved and in some cases over priced ornaments.

If your looking for something a little different especially as a gift you can't go wrong. You won't mind paying a little bit extra here and there.

But for the serious collectors the mineral samples tend to be small and not the best quality, those which aren't in my option were a little over priced.

It's still worth dropping in and having a look you never know a little something might catch your eye. There just wasn't anything there to make me go WOW! (Unless you count the $7000 quartz orb... but that was just over the price and a little over the size)

The staff seemed pleasant and all in all, I'd go back for another look!

You will find either the owner, his wife or mate running the shop for the day. I have found this the best permanent shop to buy beautiful and unusual geological, mineral and crystal rock samples. There is also a large range of gifts from jewelery to paperweights and bookends made from unique gems. Collectors pieces such as unpolished stromatolites specimens are a regular find in this shop.

Even if you know nothing about rocks this is just a fascinating shop to visit.
You can guarantee if you buy a gift for someone from the shop that no one will give another one like it to anyone, ever!
