10 reviews about Sydney Junction Hotel

I recently visited the restaurant at the Sydney Junction with on a Friday night with a group of about 20 or so people for a friend's birthday. They offered a good variety of meal options including vegetarian and kids meals. To spite the large number of people in our group they were very quick with bringing out most of the meals, and they brought out the kids meals among the first ones brought out so that was helpful in keeping the kids happy. Unfortunately my meal which was the vegetarian crepe came out last and I had to wait awhile for mine but at least they brought the other 19 meals out quickly. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals and thought they were tasty, although my vegetarian crepe was a little disappointing, as the filling of the crepe was quite bland and watery with a red pasta sauce in it that wasn't very tasty. Although it was edible and the chips that came with it were quite nice and crunchy. The meal sizes were quite generous and I don't think anyone would be left feeling hungry after dining here. The meals were great value they were very reasonably priced, with quite a few menu items for around $10, which is what my crepe was, and even the more expensive meal options were only around $20. Overall I was happy enough with the service and value and meal options I just didn't much enjoy my own meal but it was okay.

Recently moved in the area and went to the pub for a $6 meal. Well, the lady behind the bar gave me friendly advice regarding public transport in the area, entertainment etc. The $6 meal was absolutely beautiful. I am now a regular. Service here is shocking! More interested in socialising then serving customers. Even management isn't customer focussed!
The food was watery and bland. Barely able to eat it. Portion sizes were too big and no attention to detail.
Definatley one of the last places I would go back to.

I've stayed in old Eastern European communist "gulag style" accommodation that appears 5 star compared to this place. I suppose for $50 I shouldn't expect much... but it is a bedroom, so you sort of expect to be able to sleep.... never stay there on a weekend! thumpa thumpa thumpa all night long... drunken youths... all bad.

The rooms are plain... some even have partial window dressings to fool you into thinking you may be able to block out the light!

Shared bathrooms... the less said the better.

The hotel would be better off using this area for storage rather than fooling people into believing they can actually sleep there....

the moral... you get what you pay for!

Downstairs this hotel was to be expected, ...a pub, we stayed there as we were visiting Newcastle to see a band, and thought it a fun, cheap option to stay in an old hotel.the Sydney junction was ah rather shockingly bad!!! We shared a bathroom that was beyond filthy, overflowing bins, , the room was dirty and I didnt even like putting my head on the pillow, the blinds were broken, the carpet scummy, the humming engine from some awful thing whirred all night long out the window..and the thumpa thumpa of the young people aprtying to music? til 3 am!! OMG.definatley never again!!!!

It was pretty cheap for lunch here but the food was just boring & tasteless. It seems to cater for the masses with quantity over quality. Large portions but I prefer my meals smaller and tastier.

Myself and my extended family went here for dinner on a Sunday night. We hadn't booked as it was a spur of the moment decision. The first staff member we encountered was great, very friendly and explained she didnt have room for us in the restaurant, but there was tables in the bar and the kids were allowed in there as long as they were accompanied by an adult at all times.

After that, everything went downhill - the bar service was painfully slow, the staff member taking the food orders was just plain rude to the point she nearly made my sister in law cry and my brother got so angry at her attitude and the way she spoke to us. She obviously didn't want to be there, and made us feel like we were imposing on her social time.

The food arrived very fast, but lacked taste, everything seemed watery and bland. So overall very disappointed, and probably wont be back any time soon.

$5 bar meals are good. Available lunch and evenings after 6pm. 5 to choose from and all very good, and better value than a take away place. You must order at a window in a back room and collect it when the buzzer calls. Then you must eat it in the bar. There are other meals available with more dignity, but for me, the $5 bar meals are good value, and fair portioned,-not huge, but fair size.

Approximate cost: $5
