I went to The Spaghetti Tree with a few people and really wasn't expecting much. The place seemed nice, and I figured it would likely be a really family run place.

I was pleasantly surprised. The food was sized pretty perfectly I think, if anything it was on the smaller side to what is expected but that could just be because a lot of Italian places I go to give very big portions.

The food wasn't mind blowing and exceptional, but still very enjoyable and delicious. Nobody left any food at all. I will certainly return to try some other dishes.

The staff were lovely, other people seemed to have really built up a rapport with them and I'm not surprised by that.

As other reviews mentioned, the atmosphere is really nice too.

Good friendly, cosy family feel to the place. Has been around forever and the meals are generous and filling. Tast wise pretty good without being outstanding and staff generally friendly. When you see it you seem to know what to expect with good old fashioned charm and filling rustic Italian meals just not at cheap prices.

Not the best Italian Restaurant but ok for a meal before seeing a show at the theatre. Some meals are great some not so great. Service can be improved too for a city restaurant with a long history.

I went to this restaurant for a christmas group dinner.
Spaghetti Tree is known as something of an old melbourne institution, which has stood in its Bourke St location for many years.
From the street through the windows, the restaurant looks a little worn, dated and small. Go inside however, and you find a rather large cavernous restaurant with a high ceiling and mezzanine level (for functions).
The decor and atmosphere are the drawcards for the restaurant. It feels rustic, homely and slightly quaint - as if you are inside a Charles Dickens novel. Tasseled lanterns hang from the ceiling, strange portraits and pictures line the wallpapered walls, the patterned carpet feels well worn, and a old piano sits at the back of the restaurant. It would be easy to forget that you are in the centre of 21st century CBD Melbourne.
Food wise the restaurant serves italian. The food is reasonable, nothing remarkable. It is simple, traditional italian food served rustic - similar to Pellegrini's.
Service is not great - the waitress who served our table was not at all friendly in demeanor.
But worst of all, the restaurant managed to mess up the orders/food - so that one half of the table was served 20 mins before the other half (despite the fact that orders for the table were all taken at the same time)

Approximate cost: $25

Hi Rosep1, thanks for such a descriptive review! From what you have described, the restaurantâ??s interior sounds intriguing and your description has certainly piqued our interest. We were however disappointed to read about the lacking service element and hope that the business in question will read this (and other) reviews and make the necessary improvements, especially relating to customer service. After all, management are paying wait staff to do a job and they ought to be more professional. For the life of me, I cannot understand how and why so many errors are made in this field, especially when it comes to serving the respective food at the appropriate times. This is a basic failure in time management and simply should not happen. Thanks for the heads-up! Reeces

Decent food at reasonable prices. Service was quick and friendly. Had the linguine with meatballs and was pretty good. The meatballs were tender and juicy, however the sauce was slightly lacking in salt.
