My friend asked me to post this as it contains personal medical information
“ I came to the bar this Monday evening and ordered a beer and 2 Ginger beers, I noticed straight up that ice was being put in the 2 glasses for the ginger beer which was coming from frosted taps, I said to the girl, one no ice please, and she pushed back saying I had to have ice, I said no, no ice in one, and again she insisted so I said for medical reasons I can’t have ice, again push back you could just let the ice melt, so I said literally if I have ice cold drinks you’ll have to call me an ambulance and with a grumph she tipped the ice out then she or her coworker who’d come over asked so what actually happens, so I explained if I drink ice cold drinks it causes an odd interaction with the vagus nerve which causes an irregular heart beat (which means I have to get carted off in an ambulance to hospital for cardio aversion -jump started- under general anaesthetic). By this point I’m pretty annoyed like seriously what does it matter if I don’t have ice and I’ve never been served it with ice before, so I say to them you know you really just should have accepted that when I say it’s for medical reasons that should be enough said and you don’t put ice in my drink.
As our food arrived my friend went to order me another drink and he comes back empty handed because they wouldn’t serve it without ice. So I’m really annoyed now and I go up to the bar and ask for the manager and tell her about my previous interaction with the others and how I had to explain in detail my personal medical situation just to get served a drink without out ice, and why knowing I’m in the venue and have given way more information than anyone should have to just to not have ice in a drink why they didn’t serve my friend with the same drink, to which her reply was you can have a can/bottled ginger beer from the fridge. I refused on principle you don’t deserve a single cent more of my money if you can’t accommodate to not put ice in my drink!
(For those wondering why I can have a cold drink from the iced tap, I first take small sips until the drink isn’t too cold then get to enjoy longer sips, if it had ice in it it’d stay cold)”

The seaview still and probably always will be one of the best watering holes in Townsville. Nothing better then beers near the beach. The food is good and specials are priced well but the other mains are on the expensive side

The highlight of the seaview hotel has to be their beer garden area which sits just opposite the ocean. It is a great place to have a beer with friends and the atmosphere with the sea breeze just makes you feel thirsty. There are plenty of evenings/afternoons where live music is played and there is also a juke box for other occasions. The pool tables are old and have a bit of lean on them but are always fun for some friendly banter. The Seaview regularly helps out local community groups by letting them sell raffle tickets there. One time I even saw them host crab races which drew quite a crowd. There is also a steakhouse, gaming room and bottleshop attached to the hotel. The steakhouse meals are quite nice but pretty expensive compared to other places I feel. For me the Seaview is always great place to have a beer.

Approximate cost: $25-45

My family love getting together here, you can pick if you want to eat in their restaurant or their beer garden which both offer a different variety of meal. Kid friendly till I think 9pm as it turns into a bit of a night club. Love the service and my fave meal has to be their steak sandwiches.

Approximate cost: $15.00 in the beer garden

The Seaview hotel has a great spot on the strand in Townsville and coupled with a big beer garden it makes it a great hotel for a beer. They also do some nice steaks and wood fired pizzas for decent value. It's a great pub to while away the hours whilst taking in some sea breezes in North Queensland.

It's really nice to sit outside with a view of the strand and have a meal.. The food and price range is nice and affordable. You just have to remember that the outside bar is a cash only bar - however there is an atm on hand

We've been here 3 times so far. It's not just a restaurant, it's also a pub and has bands. On our first visit last year we ate (well, just a small feed) mussels and a Greek salad between us and very pleasant it was too. Lovely to sit and look over The Strand and the beach. The next time was just to pop in and have a drink after shopping nearby on a Saturday afternoon. The bar itself is open either side but under cover and has pool tables. There is also a large open area which caters for us dreaded smokers. Now, we did't realise it's a cash bar until hubby had ordered his pint of tap beer. The barmaid directed us to an atm machine which was the most annoyingly complicated thing and took us quite a while to get the hang of, and eventually get money from. By the time we got back to the bar hubby's beer had warmed up bUT the barmaid was lovely. She said the atm machine can confuse new users, so she tipped out half his beer and topped it up with cold. Wonderful service. There are not many pubs in Townsville where you can just pop in for a relaxing drink, have a fag without hassle, and not be regaled by swearing, drunkenness or topless meat raffle ticket sellers - the Seaview is the exception.
I think the place is currently up for sale. I do hope the new owners don't turn it into some upmarket club.
