Plain old fashioned cosy modest local cafe.
The surrounds are fairly plain, they tread neither the trendy extremes of stark warehouse theme, nor the high society garden tea party. The menu is also fairly standard. What really stands out for me though, is the way in which this cafe serves up its food. Just like how your mother, grandmother, or aunt would if you were coming home after some time away.
Things that I loved;
- having both halves of the tomato in my breakfast (so many cafes these days withhold half, and I find it rather stingy)
- the generous layers & folds of shaved ham with their eggs benedict (I am converted, shaved ham is far nicer than thick slices, it is lighter in texture, more pleasant on the palate and sits so much more prettily on the plate)
- a vegetarian breakfast option that is not just poached eggs with vegetable sides on bread or baked beans (mine had eggplant, capsicum, fetta, mushrooms etc)

Had popped in for take away coffee when I had appointment in the area and it was good coffee and the meals others were having for breaky looked yum! So I thought I'd pop in again this week as I had another appointment in area and was early. I order coffee and only had time for fruit toast both of which were yummy. The young guy serving is so friendly and attentive, I was very pleased with everything. Even the water provided was DELISH it had a mix of citrus fruit and berries. Will definitely go back and try a bigger breaky or lunch with my partner and ensure I'm always early for appointments in the area just to pop in.

On a Sunday afternoon for lunch, it was either Penny Farthing or Ruckers Hill both within 30 seconds walking distance between each other. I was not bothered with either as I'd heard good reviews about both. However, Penny Farthing was brimming with customers, with no seats left for us. So Ruckers Hill it was. I like the simple yet wholesome menu. I was in the mood for Vegetarian option, as I usually am. My friend ordered eggs and salmon. The presentation of both was impressive, especially the eggs which came out looking like two ice cream scoops on top of his salmon and bread. As for mine, my friend said that it looked like 'dinner, which it did indeed, as the vegetables were served in a cute little hotpot style. The combination of polenta with vegetables felt so healthy to eat. Coffee was superb too. I would definitely come here again

If you are looking for a truly wonderful brunch experience, try Ruckers Hill Cafe! The food, staff and atmosphere were all fantastic. Being a vegetarian I don't often find really really good food, why baffles me - but there it is! Ruckers Hill Cafe definitely hit the spot with their vegie claypot breakfast, simply divine! My companions, mainly meat eaters, were raving about their meals too. The price was also reasonable, i had a pot of tea and fresh juice as well as my scrummy yummy claypot delight and paid about $25 for the pleasure. Take note, Ruckers Hill Cafe is very popular, and the space is quite small, so either book ahead or be prepared to meander around high street's lovely mix of eclectic shops while you wait.

Approximate cost: $15
