Part of the Balgownie Estate, Rae's is a good restaurant in its own right. I went for a wine event, and the menu was well considered/paired showcasing not only the knowledge and expertise of the chef and sommelier in planning and matching, but also the skill in execution.
For example, to go with the sparkling, we got a Cucumber foam with salmon roe. Which was an absolute delight and perfect match. The zingy flavour absolutely complemented the natural sweetness of the cucumber. Similarly, the initial courses also went well with their respective whites - Seared Canadian scallops with roasted corn salsa & chardonnay butter, Cauliflower & goats cheese pannacotta with tomato & fennel white balsamic infused salad.

Really classy restaurant with nice views. Service was a bit slow it took us over 2 hours to each a lunch and we were fast eaters. The resort at the back is beautiful, we stayed there overnight. Free wine tasting too.

We were staying in the area for a few days during the week so it was difficult to find somewhere open that we wanted to go to for dinner.
We were still full from lunch that day and had a 7.30 pm booking so we ended up getting there around 8.30 pm.

There are open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
We didn't try any of their wines but have heard good things.

The food was ok but nothing inventive, unique, exciting or worth going back for in a hurry for still not a bad meal.

The restaurant was set out like a pokie place in my opinion.

Bread rolls were offered with olive oil, I preffered mine plain though.
A complimentary amuse bouche was given once we ordered.

My mother ordered a crab tian and it was very cold like it just came out of the fridge,i had the beef carpaccio for my entree it was extremely small and not filling but the beef just melted in my mouth.

The mains were very average my mother ordered a mushroom risotto which she couldn't finish but said she enjoyed.
I ordered the beef eye fillet which was very average but edible.
then we ordered the dessert platter to share which was nice the semi freddo being the stand out.
Overall service was good food was ok. Plenty of parking available.

My husband and I came here for dinner recently when we were staying at the Balgownie Estate. I had read some pretty mixed reviews on other websites, but they must have since changed chefs because we found the food AMAZING.
The service was very friendly.
The price is a little higher than I usually pay ($70 for 3 courses), but having said that, we both left full, so I can't really complain.
I think they adjust the number of service staff to the season, so book ahead, even in Winter, to make sure you can get in.

Approximate cost: $70 per person for 3 courses
