We really enjoyed our experience and I will be recommending it. The cabin was sufficient for 2 adults and 2 young children . We found it to be very clean and if we needed anything the owners were very quick to sort it . As for the riding it was great . None of us had done any riding before but we're put at ease with how relaxed Dave and Ramona were. They looked after the kids and gave us a basic lesson and away we went . I will go back and stay and maybe book a lesson for us all . If you have had a lot more experience on horses I would let Ramona know in advance to get the most out of your holiday . Thanks again for looking after us .

I find the other views on here hard to believe about this business as my experience at Pegasus Park was great. The owners were very professional and passionate about what they do. They run a great business and I would recommend it to anyone at any age, as they cater for all, and the horses are very placid. I found that the daughter was also very experienced and is very good at what she does. The views from the trail ride were absolutely stunning as they took us riding up the hills out the back of Bangalow.
I will be coming back here when I return to Byron Bay.

This was by far the worst experience of my time in Byron. I was interested in the 2hr beach ride with the 'horse surfing' and booked to ride at 9am on a monday for 2 people. The owner eventually answered my email and i asked if the ride was suitable for advanced riders. Yes, apparently, lots of cantering and riding the horses in the water, i was told.
Half an hour before the ride (we were in the car on the way to meet her at the beach) she called and said the weather was too bad for riding and we'd have to join up with a later ride at 11.30am. Because the weather was so bad we'd only be able to stay out for 1.5hrs and not 2.
It turns out she'd had another party of 5 book in at 11.30 and obviously didn't want to go out twice in one day.
So we got there and she eventually turns up in an old beat up horse box with about 10 scraggly, dirty ponies. The tack and equipment was old and damaged - my sisters camera fell out of a saddle bag through a hole and she lost it on the beach. I told the owner I was an experienced rider and asked her for an adventurous horse.
Well, I needn't have bothered.
The horses had obviously done the route about a thousand times. We walked along the beach for about 40 minutes at a snails pace. There was no horse surfing and no trotting or cantering. Eventually my sister asked if we could canter on our own and was told we could hold back for 'no more than 10 metres' and then trot to catch up with the group. How boring. Every time we trotted near the group she shouted at us to hold back. I cant believe we wasted our time.
Anyway the final part of the story comes when I'm at the airport in Byron and happen to bump into one the other group who'd ended up riding that day. It turns out they'd booked a one hour ride but she'd told them that it was such a good day they should stay out for 1.5hrs instead.
And she'd only charged them $80 each!!
I emailed and asked her for some money back but never heard anything from her again.
DO NOT RIDE WITH THIS UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY. A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

My review differs from the first review significantly. I visited Pegasus Park in December 2011 and I found this business to be very well run. Yes initially it was a little difficult to track down who was in charge. However, both of the owners were out on rides and we were early so we just waited until our ride time and then the ownders returned. Ramona noticed us standing there and came straight over and introduced herself to us. Ramona made us immediately feel welcome. We also booked the cottage that is on the property for the night. The cottage was excellent value for money, very neat and tidy, modern and well appointed. Its perfect if you wanted to go on a holiday with your horses as the paddock is right next door. The property is well located 3kms out of Bangalow. Close to Byron Bay as well. The ride itself was amazing beautiful scenery and views. The horses were extremely well looked after and even temperamented. My friend was a begineer and had never riden before. Ramona immediately made my friend feel at ease and stayed with her the whole ride. It was truly a great weekend and a very enjoyable experience. I will be taking my daughters back to the beach ride. Thanks Ramona and David for a great weekend!

In the end we have no actual experience to describe, but quite a story getting to the end of this non-event. Where to begin?! For a business with a reasonably professional website, what a joke. I planned to take guests horse riding nearby Byron Bay and Pegasus Park is where I landed online. Good for them for having google optimization, good for me for having womow to vent when it all went wrong. I initially emailed this business whilst considering a hinterland weekend ride asking a few questions like "is clothing provided or do we bring out own" and "do your rides cater for inexperienced adults who might be a little shy to give it a try" and the obvious "what time do your rides depart". The reply was brief, one sentence, no grammar (like SMS language), and no actual response to anything I'd asked.

So we called. It was approx 4 calls later over 2 days at various times before someone answered the phone. It was possibly a teenage boy who took the booking, answered our questions that were not answered via email and our booking was made. The three week count down was on, I was really looking forward to surprising my guests with this activity at the end of our Byron Bay long weekend.

The day arrived. The booking was for 11am at the Pegasus Park property. We called 4 times from 9am hoping to confirm our booking and no answer. They really don't like the phone it seems, yet did not respond properly to email queries either, go figure. We drove from Byron to Bangalow and arrived 30 minutes early unsure what was going on. We parked and walked over to the horse paddock by the house. Several horses were tied to trees along the roadside of the run completely motionless, unable to graze and not saddled or anything as if about to ride. Two dogs were also chained in this paddock and also motionless. It was kind of weird. Another horse tied to the front fence was shaking kind of like it was having a constant fit. It was really awful to watch. I have no idea what was wrong with the horse and unfortunately the opportunity did not arise to ask. We stood and we waited 15 minutes and nobody came out of the house. There was clothing, boots and paperwork on a table near the paddock but no one to be seen. Then a car pulled up with two teenagers in it who double parked behind our vehicle and went into the house, with no acknowledgment that four strangers were standing in their property looking lost. One of us took the opportunity then to approach the house. The door was open and voices could be heard but when he called out for attention nobody responded. Uncomfortable and unsure what to do he returned to us and we waited some more. The teenagers then left the house and drove off, right by us, saying nothing. It was at this point we decided this business was not worthy of our money or time and we made our way back to the car and left.

Seriously, this experience was quite unbelievable. A business that does not want business! They were impossible to reach in the first place and a no show after that. They also had our name and number from making the booking and did not call us at all after we left to follow up what might have happened. There are quotes on this website from the owner about how wonderful their horse rides are. I wish this were true for us. I'm really peeved off about this experience, it ruined our morning and this business is a joke. I hope the horses are ok and not neglected. It was a very surreal experience and they were not like any horses I've ever seen free and roaming.

Approximate cost: $50 per person for 1 hour hinterland ride

On behalf of Pegasus Park ,
I am very dissapointed to see such a comment i apologise you where not stasfied with the experience , As we always aim to please ! In regard to finding it hard to contact we can be at at times, as we are always out and about with the horses wich are very time consuming job. In saying that we value our customers and do not take them for granted and will respond to your messages as soon as possible.
As for the Animals there our life our means to our buisness but mainly there family. the horses have acres of land to roam on. They are caught at feeding times wich is 3 times a day we tie the horses up when customers are around for safety reasons other than that they roam free and happy. I am confident in saying the horses are in great condition and would never go neglected we love our animals unconditionaly , there constanttly fed , rugged , vet checked, regulare shoeing, everything an animal needs, as for the dogs they get tied up when we opperate trail rides as the can b a bit mischevious around the horses. . Im not sure who you would be regarding to by the teenagers. And as you have turned up half an hour early no one had been there to greet you as we where all out on a trail. If you had of waited we could of answered all your questions and im sure your experince would of been a great one
