Ocean beach is lucky enough to be in a great location. The pub has a nice vibe to it and although it was a little crowded, we did enjoy our steak and chips.
The Ocean Beach Hotel in Shellharbour is a fantastic local pub, it gets a really good crowd and has a vibrant atmosphere. It is in a pretty spot overlooking the harbour. Wonderful food menu for a pub, just a tad pricey. The service is good. Overall, this pub is definitely worth a visit.
Good pub feel. Young atmosphere and fun vibrant staff. It did take a little too long for our meals to come out and I did think it was a tad overpriced considering its a pub meal however an enjoyable experience.
Great location and food. Although the time it took to get my food and the price was unbelievably long and high, especially for a pub. Staff were friendly.
Fabulous location, overlooking the harbour. Outdoor or indoor seating. Wonderful food and good service. Prices are a bit expensive for a pub.
Still my favourite hotel because of its setting and you haven't been to Shellharbour if you haven't been to the local pub.Meals are great.Staff are young and need lots of encouragement.Pubs are a bit grotty and this one is so don't expect a Versace experience but for a cold drink on the deck this is as good as it gets
Approximate cost: $20.00
I have been a patron of this restaurant since a teenager. As a family we would head down to Shellharbour Village for the Ocean Beach Hotel and enjoy the view of Shellharbour Beach from the deck.
When I got married I hired the restaurant and had a buffet of hot and cold food. It was the most relaxing wedding reception I've ever been to and everyone loved the fact that it was just across the road from where the ceremony was held in the pagoda in Little Park near the boat harbour.
We keep coming back to this wonderful restaurant for family events (birthdays, special occasions) and can see doing so for many years to come. Their seafood is always fresh and cooked to perfection. You can choose to eat in the dining room or out on the deck with the water view. Be sure to book ahead if you have a large party as this is one very popular location.
Top 5 recommendations:
1. seafood platter for one ($70) includes fresh and cooked prawns, several oysters, two scallops, several varieties of fish, smoked salmon, spring rolls stuffed with king prawns, fresh crab and half a lobster. The addition of summer fruits to cleanse the palate. The dipping sauces were very tasty and we left feeling very full and sated.
2. a mixed dozen of oysters. Raw, Kilpatrick and Gremolata ($32.90)
3. Lamb roast with beans, asparagus and creamed potatoes with a garnish of seaweed salad and tomatoes
4. Crispy pork belly with fresh queensland sea scallops, confit of garlic and honey glaze ($18.90)
5. Children's menu: Chicken nuggets with chips, fruit and ice cream for dessert
Approximate cost: $18
Food was fresh and interesting. Service was good even though the place was packed, and without fuss, we were given a table without having a reservation on a busy holiday day. Prices a little high but location and everything else spot on.
service has gone downhill, you need to wave madly before a staff member will serve you, and even then they will sometimes walk right past you. The wait is pretty long too and the menu isn't as great as it used to be. Bring back the old favourites and the dessert tasting platter. Hate the fact that the bar is open to the bar for the pub so the cigarette smoke comes into the restuarant.
Approximate cost: $30
