Dumplings were tasty but unremarkable. Their service can certainly improve. Overall experience was quite average.

There are better options in Chatswood.

Always a crowded joint. Like the steam pork dumplings, the pan-fried pork buns, handmade fried noodles and beef noodles to name a view. Service is average, price a little high for the quantity.

I love New Shanghai, the food is delicious and it is so affordable. My favourite items to order there is the mini pork buns (xiao long bao) , crispy skin chicken noodle soup and the chicken congee. The food also does not appear to be too salty and full of msg, which means my toddler can eat there too.

The experience with them is quite average. The food was ok, but the prize was bit high. However, the service was good, the staff are friendly and supportive.

Going out with some friends we ordered quite a few dishes between us so it was around $30 per head (and only one non-alcoholic beverage ordered!). The food was very average for the price and it all came at once! We actually had no room at all for the food and had to put a few things on the floor! Overall food was average (the pork ribs VERY fatty- 80% fat), price was not worth the quantity and quality and the dining experience very crowded.

New Shanghai is my family's favourite restaurant anywhere! We love the pan-fried buns & dumplings. All the dishes we have tried have been delicious and the prices are great, you get so much for your $.

My friends and I, a total of 4 people went to New Shanghai in Chatswood Chase on a Sunday night. The place is fully packed when we arrived there. It would be better to make a booking in advance as there is always a queue. We need to obtain a ticket and waited around for 20 minutes. However, the queue moved quite quickly as customers leave once they finished their meals. The place was decorated nicely with shahainese style, little red benches etc. We ordered little pork dumplings buns, shanghai stir-fry noodles, some chicken that was cooked in chinese wine. The chicken tasted so delicious what we ordered another one. The size per dish is quite generous and are good to be shared. The staff are very efficient and friendly. They are BYO as well and charge only $2 per person for corkage which is good for us. However, the kitchen closes quite early at 8pm so the waitstaff was advising us to place our last order of dishes before 8pm. We used a discount coupon so our bill worked out to be only $15 per head, quite a good deal. We will be back again even if we have no discount coupon.

Someone mentioned earlier that they liked the tiny dumplings here. I think they're okay, but feel that they do not offer value. For the price you pay you could grab a decent meal around Chatswood, and tip the leftover to the service staff.

I did like the fact that hot food were served hot.

With all fairness, I don't usually enjoy authentic mainland chinese dishes too much. I prefer the slightly westernised versions of them.

With that said, I did not greatly enjoy the food. My dad on the other hand was loving the food. He knew exactly what to order, dumplings and steamed vegies in what looked like soy sauce of some sort. Again I thought they were expensive, I would personally prefer fresh greens at that price range.

Service was sub-standard. Granted it was a little busy, but I've seen plenty other places where they were even more under staffed and provided far superior services.

Not exactly the place I'd recommend for my friends, but I know my dad brings everyone and anybody there, believe me that's how I ended up there.

We went there just last weekend and the place was crowded with a few people waiting in front for a table. We were not sure what to do so we just waited until we were the only ones left queuing, thinking the next table would be for us. Suddenly, a couple came to join the queue, and they seemed to know what to do while waiting - wrote on the piece of booking sheet and tore off the booking number. The waitress, who clearly saw us waiting since 10 minutes ago, immediately acknowledged the new couple who had the booking number and ignored us! How unfair. She clearly saw us waiting but chose to ignore / inform us regarding the booking sheet. We eventually wrote down our booking and got attended to, but they certainly could improve on their service.

I LOVE the dumplings here - my favourite place for dumplings! Service is sometimes slow but the food is worth the wait. Last time I was here I had the 6-course wine and dumpling menu - amazing! Such great value too :)
