I had heard mixed reviews about this place but finally tried it last night as the price of their Thai curry's was very desirable compared to most other Thai restaurants. The food was Delicious! We had a Chinese dish which tasted very fresh and not at all greasy like most Chinese and we had a Thai red curry, which was not as good as the bigger restaurants but still tasted pretty dam good for the price! So happy that we have cheap Thai food in Ballarat now that tastes pretty good. Defiantly will be back

This is the only place I've found that's competitive to Melbourne asian food - quality, portion, price. I came to Asian with high expectations of Thai food in particular and have generally been disappointed when it's 50% more expensive.

Mr Rice is simply AWESOME. I have traveled the world and I consider that Mr Rice is the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. I now go there at least twice a week. The food is fresh and extremely tasty PLUS it is very cheap. I normally have the satay King Prawns with noodles and it is delicious. I normally have the noodles. However, the rice is also extremely tasty. The rice has a very clean taste and it feels like you are actually eating something that is good for you (Surprising for Chinese food). Also, if you eat in - you are given a thermos of green tea to serve yourself, which is a nice twist.

The staff are more than friendly, their service is without fault.
Overall, I can't rate Mr Rice highly enough.

All I can say is: GO to Mr Rice because he is a legend.

The food is exceptional. No where else in Ballarat can u find such quality Chinese cuisine. The staff are friendly and helpful, the price is affordable and well worth it! All in all a surprisingly delightful dining experience!

i lived in china for a considerable period of time, and this is chinese food, but it it BAD chinese food. twice in a row i have attempted to have a meal from here and the first, sweet and sour pork, was okay, and i thought it good value for money. the second time it was a stirfry-type dish that was completely inedible. it was cheap, yes, but it was a total greasy waste of money. also, the owner might not want to criticize the counter staff so clearly in mandarin, just because we are white doesn't mean we can understand your language. she was doing a great job and you were being an ass to her. shame on you!

I would just like to say that you guys make the best chines in Ballarat hands down... Service was spot on & the meals where great, if you keep this kind of standard up u guys will have to find a bigger shop to fit all your happy customers in... PS keep smiling

Mr rice is some of the best quality food, value, and service in town. Fresh food, fantastic service, fast, tasty, no MSG, preservatives, or colors. Constantly changing range.

I am updating this review to lower my 'quality' rating from 5 to 4, as recently some claypot beef we ordered was not properly cooked, and contained red, almost raw meat, which smelled kind of funny. I'll give them one more chance but this is the kind of slip up that causes days off work...

I often order there. The staff are prettily friendly. Great service. they supply nice and healthy food. No MSG. Various choices include some new dishes which are unique here. a good place to try new food innovations.

I've been there for more than 10 times, now I'm absolutely in love with that small lovely restaurant.
They offer cheap delicious Asian food with yummy sauce. The homemade chicken dim sims were fabulous and the claypot rice was really nice. I've eaten there many times, never had any problem.

We have been there a couple of times and the food has been excellent and so has the service has been fast and friendly. Which is a change for the usual places in Ballarat
