What a great place for a meal or kick back for drinks and entertainment or why not experience the lot. Really good food and fantastic venue to bring the kids. Meet a group of friends or family or spoil your partner for a lovely night out. Staff super friendly. Definitely value for money.

There is a great atmosphere at this pub. I come here sometimes for dinner, a drink and trivia on Tuesday nights and it's a great night out! The meals are good pub style meals and are reasonably priced (I always get the schnitzel). Trivia is always well run and fun to have a go at. The staff here are always pleasant and I'm more than happy to keep visiting!

Had lunch here for a friends birthday yesterday. There were 10 of us plus a baby. It was very quiet which was good. Food came fairly quickly considering there were 10 of us. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and the quantity on the plate was perfect! Enough to fill us up but not to the point of over-filling. My meal was fresh and flavoursome and a great price.
The staff could be a bit friendlier, but was helpful when asked.

We went to the bistro today for a Sunday lunch outing with the kids and how disappointing! It started well when we walked in and it was quite busy....sometimes a good sign but ended very quickly once meals arrived. The children ordered from the kids menu and for $8.50 they got a sml drink, meal and ice-cream. All four children ordered a different thing and they all came out squashed in a bowl. My son ordered lasagna and chips and it was slop piled on top of his chips so he hardly touched it saying it was yuck, my younger son ordered pizza and chips and wouldn't eat the pizza......what 3GS old turns down pizza so must have been bad! My daughters ordered calamari which she loves but said it was horrible and my younger daughter ordered nuggets which I think was the only edible thing out of all four. $8.50 for chips is a little steep seeing that's all they could eat. We never bothered with the ice-cream through pure fear of more disappointment. I ordered tempura prawns which was really prawns covered in batter...blah!! The meals came out quite quickly so I suppose that was the only thing the place had going for it. Such a shame as it looks the part and I was really hoping to enjoy a nice lunch out so maybe we just caught them on a REAL bad day.

The meals and salad bar are at a great price and they easily have the best schnitzel around. Good atmosphere within near reach of the beach. A nice easy summer pub meal

I love visiting the Mary Ellen for the great range of beers and you can actually get a pram around. The menu has a great variety and good prices. I usually have the veal schnitzel with a different topping and the chips are yum! Good pub food.

Great food. Real mashed potato, yummy garlic prawn sauce, great steaks and snitzels too. Great weekly specials and modern hotel in the Newcastle CBD. Love the picture wall in the resteraunt.

My Husband and I celebrated our 13th Wedding Anniversary at the Mary Ellen Bistro at Merewether, the food was really tasty and we tried some special beer that we haven't had before. Very nice experience! We will go again for sure!
