Little Bertha is a cake and boutique catering service - they do both retail as well as wholesale/corporate orders. They are very focused on local produce about the local produce.
On the menu is a huge variety of sweet treats to choose from – cakes, cupcakes, biscuits, slices, muffins – these can be delivered as individual portions, slabs or petit fours. In terms of orders, you place an order and either have it delivered or collect from their wholesale bakery kitchen in Abbotsford.
Little Bertha has one of the most creative range of sweet temptations (I particularly like how it is not just about mousse cakes). As an example, in my latest order I had
Beetroot Cake - cupcake made of shaved beetroot, cardamom and topped with icing and finished with toasted salted beetroot chips and pepitas. It was lovely, moist and fudgy.
Chocolate & Zucchini Cake - made with a combination of almond meal, freshly grated zucchini, cocoa and cinnamon. The combination of chocolate icing, cake and the crunch of the almond praline was delicious.
Hazelnut & Cranberry Meringue Cake - an impressive cupcake made of meringue and hazelnut meal topped with white chocolate cream cheese icing and a beautiful glistening hazelnut praline. Eating this cupcake is a lovely experience for the senses – there is the initial crunch followed by the creamy marshmallowy texture of the meringue together with the burst of tang from the cranberries.
Lime & Yoghurt Syrup Cake - a tangy butter cake with yoghurt folded through together with blueberries and steeped in lime syrup. The end result is a full on tangy flavour that is very refreshing.
Granola Bar - Very nutritious, complete with fresh nuts, seeds, dried fruits and puffed grains. The bar was chewy and the textures altogether made for an enjoyable experience.
Monte Carlo - you will never go back to arnott's.... the strawberry cream centre was housed between two soft and delicious short bread circles, which had been dusted with icing sugar. The combination of the buttery short bread was heaven along with the creamy yet vibrant strawberry filling.
I could go on forever about the fantastic products on the menu at little bertha ... but best if you check it out.
One final thing which I like about them, is that they cater for dietary requirements. Not just gluten free, but also vegan etc.
