6 reviews about Laundrymutt

NEVER TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS DOG GROOMING BUSINESS - they left my dog so shaved down that she had nothing left on her back. She was bleeding from about 6 places including around her bottom. The cut was uneven, everywhere on her face and body had bits of longer hair sticking out, hair around her face, neck and head looked like it had just been chopped.
Her tail had been completely stripped of hair - ever though it was well brushed before this "Grooming". When I complained both the owner and the groomer were extremely rude, did not acknowledge the terrible job done and basically blamed me for not caring for my dog. Both unprofessional and incompetent. I wish I had read other negative reviews before taking her here. (photos available of this terrible grooming experience)

Nick and Sarah at Laundrymutt are wonderful people and have a true love for all things animal. I go to their store for supplies and grooming of my extremely anxious three year old cocker spaniel. They've known her since she was four months old. They groom her with patience, love and care and I cannot recommend them enough!!

Approximate cost: $149

never again: nail clipping left dog with bleeding foot & no comment from staff till I noticed & pointed it out. Impossible to miss! took dog to vet to staunch bleeding...grumpy proprietor who probably doesn't even like dogs

My first visit was during a walk-by on Bridge road. I popped in to enquire about getting a Samoyed de-shed. The gentleman on staff asked if that meant a "full" de-shed. I lightheartedly told him that a partial de-shed didn't sound like the best use of our time. Missing (or maybe ignoring) the implied humour, he took the opportunity to tell me that most of the time, other places just brush, they never really de-shed. He explained to me the difference between a mere de-shed or a full de-shed in absolute detail (jargon buster: they're super hardcore brushes better than their competitors can deliver).

He told me a long story about how de-sheds are like menstrual cycles and should be performed every 30 days. I was bamboozled enough to agree to a once a month plan where the dog would be super hardcore brushed for a discounted rate of $120, providing he was booked for the next months one at the time of delivery. I was told a bunch of other stuff was included and the conversation had gone far longer than it needed to, so we set a time.

I delivered the dog fuss free, and left his pickup in the good hands of my housemate. Three and a bit hours later she called me quite upset with the fact that when she contacted LaundryMutt to find out when the dog would be available for collection, she had been lectured, condescended to, and even told that "this dog has never been brushed before." She identified herself as not being the owner of the dog, but the tirade continued anyway. The dog grooming menstrual cycle was then raised with her as well!

On pickup, my housemate was further lectured and talked down to. For a third time, at least two times too many, the dog grooming menstrual cycle was brought up again. At this point, everyone was uncomfortable with everything. Maybe forever.

The agreed $120 had also magically been moved up and charged at $160. I hadn't been consulted about that despite having two numbers to contact me on, but looking at the dog and seeing the effort and care that had gone into him, I let it go and we all moved on with our lives.

With enough time having passed since the weirdest dog grooming transaction we or anyone we know has encountered, I decided to have another crack at it. Samoyeds are blowing coat at the moment with the change of the season, a difficult time where no matter how much you brush, the hair just keeps on coming. Despite this, the dog needed a wash after one too many dives into garden beds and choosing convenience over common sense I gave LaundryMutt a call.

He was booked in and dropped off on the instruction just to wash him. I was even called and asked a second time if just a wash was all I wanted. Still yes. I was contacted an hour later and told that they would not be happy returning him to me unbrushed, and that fur was everywhere. I wasn't surprised that fur was everywhere (I'm very familiar with the dog believe it or not) but I was surprised when told that for the wash so far I was looking at $130. For an extra $30 they could complete a de-shed. Defeated, I agreed to the $160 with a vow to never return.

Around an hour later (according to my call logs) I was told he was ready. I was again surprised, given I'd been told hours more work would need to be done which was used as justification for the near-double price blowout. On pickup, which the gentleman would not allow me to complete without embarrassment, I discovered that for my $160 he had been washed, partially brushed, and that he had not been completely dried. In six years I have never had this Samoyed returned to me undried.

To put all this into perspective, for $120 my old groomer (who would be horrified to learn someone would say that he "had never been de-shed") would detail his eyes and ears and paws, hygiene clip, brush, wash, white-bright, and dry him completely. Before you think this must be some backyard home business, it's [redacted - mentions alternative business by name] in inner metro Brisbane - a giant, beautiful, carpeted, well lit, air conditioned facility with ultra polite, friendly staff.

These guys take themselves far more seriously than the work they produce. A lot of gasps and laughs have been shared about these experiences, but I can't imagine anyone laughing more than these guys are for getting away with charging me $160 for *almost* one complete service. As if the price wasn't enough, you can't end the transaction without getting talked down to by the gentleman gatekeeper. Please sir, if you're going to bang me unexpectedly, at least have the decency to give me a cuddle afterwards.

Absolutely appalled by the treatment we received here. In particular that of one male staff member who shoved my dog into a cage and told me off and treated me like a child. I left in shock. Not able to stop thinking about the treatment of both my dog and myself I returned 30 mins later visibly upset asking to take my dog home. Upon which I was given a lecture about discipline as I stood there crying and shaking trying to leave. I'm shocked by this experience and cannot believe the way I was spoken to as a person and as a customer.

Kate and the team at Laundrymutt have so much to choose from and provide really good service. I take a client's dog there for washes and they are always really helpful. They seem to carry interesting things that other pet stores dont have
