I have ordered Kings take away and/or delivery before, both of which I have always gound to be excellent. So, when friends came to visit, I was gung-ho on taking them to this great restaurant which, I did. Usually, I would give this place 5 stars. This time, however, after eating inside,
I am giving it a very generous low 3. Ordering was ok,
untilI asked for a coke. The waitress gave me a warm coke.
When I asked for a cold one, she said that there wasnt any.
So when I asked for ice for the drink, I was shocked when
she said: "We do mot have any ice". One of my friends said
to me: "A restaurant with no ice? I've never heard of such
a thing". The ordering process for my chicken chow mein
was easy, but the ordering other dishes was atrocious. My
friends had certain needs, and the waitress was clueless as
to what they were talking about. A male waiter came to
help. He was a real gentleman, & helped. When thr food
arrived arrived, one of my friends asked the same waitress
for some water, but she clearly ignored my friend. The food was very good & each plate was piled high. The prices are quite low (approx. $15 main meal) considering the amount of food. I had done a review on this restaurant 2yrs. ago. I will definitely order out or take away again. As for eating inside, I'd have to think long and hard about that. I raved about this restaurant, only to be quite embarrassed about the horrible service. In saying this, zzI need to consider that maybe our waitress was having a bad day, or was new. But giving a hot coke, and the restaurant not having ice, is a first for me, in any restaurant. My suggestion: either take out, have it delivered, or take a chance. You probably will get better service but ringing ahead to check om cold drinks and ice would be recommended. Sorry Kings, you have always been my fav. Chinese restaurant, but eating in was an embarrassment to me after giving my friends such a high review of you, & the service was unbelievable bad. Giving you a low 3 is a very high rating on my part, "this time". Get cold drinks and ice. You are a restaurant, after all. I will again review in another couple of years.

I have also been going to Kings for years. I would normally give it the best rating possible, but have also seen a decrease in the quality of their "take away" Chicken Chow Mein. Having also dined inside the restaurant, surprisingly, the same meal is still excellent, with always too much to eat. I'm a chicken-chow-mein fanatic, so haven't tasted the other food, unless my sister gets something else. By the way, in several chinese food places, I have found the chicken rubbery, but at Kings it is still excellent. You can tell that it is real chicken, & you get very big pieces. The one thing I really don't like is that, although they state that delivery is free, it is only free if you order $20 of food. I live alone, and on cold nights would prefer to have it delivered. I don't really eat much & find it a real turn-off to have to buy $20 worth of food for the free delivery. So, I just don't bother ordering anything.. Otherwise, I will still give it a high 4 rating. The people there are very friendly, and the service dining in is wonderful.

Have bought food from Kings for many years and sadly have found that the quality though still ok isnt quite as good anymore. They have become quite expensive and with the many other Asian restaurants around town they really just arent competing. A friend and I had lunch there recently and I have to say 2 mains, 2 drinks and 1 entree cost us almost $90. Could have gotten the same elsewhere for a fraction of the price. And the serves are not large, have to fill up on rice. Disappointing!

I sometimes use King's Chinese for home delivery and generally it is pretty good. I would recommend the Special Fried Rice ($8.50 large) and the Roast Duck with Plum Sauce ($18). As with many Chinese restaurants, having such an extensive menu, some dishes are a lot better than others. There are several types of fried rice which is confusing on the menu - Combination Rice, Special Fried Rice, and Fried Rice. The Special Fried Rice is the one I now order after mistakenly ordering the others - it has lots of small pieces of vegetables and Chinese barbequed pork in it.

Great tasting food thats hot when you get it. I've yet to eat anywhere else that beats Kings in the illawarra. Takeaway orders are always completed really quickly (usually 15 minutes tops on a really busy night) and they offer free delivery around the wollongong area! Top picks would be the chicken with cashews and the crab claws.

Nice food, menu generally has what you'd expect at most chinese restaurants. Friendly service. Nice location. Pleasant experience. Nice for a quick drop in dinner.
