Best Japanese food I've ever had, definitely worth the cost, my friend and I shared the tempura and sushi plate and they were absolutely delicious, the caramelised eggplant sushi was something I'd never tried before and I was so very impressed, the atmostphere is relaxed and they staff are wonderful and attentive without being pushy

Teppanyaki salmon is my favourite food in Kanpai. Dinner time is always busy so normally I made reservation. the food came quite fast and it is delicious. the price range is quite reasonable for Japanese food (location in chapel st) - $15. Recommended!

We told them we only had 25 minutes to eat and get to a Movie.....service was very quick and efficient. We both had the miso with pork and veges (which was yummy!). I also had Fried Eggplant with caramel miso sauce...sounds funny but was GREAT...very unusual but very tasty.

It is very rushed and a kind of in and out experience. You do need to get there early on any night to get a nice table that is not near a door or in the way. The staff don't really talk much and this can be nice if you don't want to be hassled. The alcohol is priced very well, as so is the food. It can get pricy if you over order and this tends to happen as every looks and sounds yummy.

Meals were filling and came out quickly. Most of the staff seemed to be exchange students, but knew enough English to be able to communicate. Price ended up being about $40.00 for two people. I would say 'Kanpai' is an authentic Japanese restaurant worth trying.
