Despite the ambience being, well, non-existent, the food is great, fresh, and comes to you quickly. We've eaten there happily many times.
Approximate cost: $38
I've eaten there a couple of times in big and small groups or jus with another person. Certainly best Japanese fare at the price in Melbourne. Not octopus though, which is my favorite. Often short of tuna and cod. The shop set up is simple. Free parking in the vicinity. A bottle shop is yards away to BYO. Food ordered comes quick mostly. Portions can be customized. Eat your heart out!
Order the banquet - all you can eat from the menu for $28/person and you can't go wrong. Must call 24 hrs before to get the oysters. Ambience is ordinary & a bit squishy, but you go there for the food. I've been here at least 6 times with family in the last 9 months and I am going there again tonight.
Approximate cost: $28
my friends referred me to this restaurant. it has a simple atmosphere, great value for money. Buffet is $28pp and you can order anything on the menu. Service was great and food came out quickly.
Approximate cost: $28
this restaurant was recommended by my friends,
i went there with my friends and boyfriend,
oysters were great , gotta order 24 hrs earlier
like the raw fish there but not the tempura- stuff..
not very" tempura" indeed. like battered things..
its nice to fill your stomach with raw salmon :D
after finishing , u will have some fruit and ice cream afterward
Approximate cost: $28
$28 all you can eat!!!! Great oyster, but sashimi.. just okay
Strongly recommend beef salad, great source
however, decor is just... too small n a bit too noisy
Approximate cost: $12
Food is only decent because of the price.
I would recommend getting the sashimi only because the sushi rice is poorly done. Do not get the Agedashi tofu, because it is not the silken one as it is meant to be, it wasn't even the typical tofu you get from the asian grocery stores! Somewhat harder and drier...not tasty at all. The beef salad was probably the best dish of the night.
Service was decent given the rush but the ambience was as someone correctly described it, a packed school canteen, I was constantly yelling on top of everyone else.
Overall, I wouldn't say it's worth it for me to drive all to eat there again.
Approximate cost: $28
not the best atmosphere... but who cares?! the food is GREAT! excellent service. my friends and i had a very memorable time. and very kind to the hip pocket
Approximate cost: $18
It was quite hard to get there by public transport, therefore would be most advisable to go only if you have a car. The food was decent for the price paid, especially the sashimi, they were fantastic. However, the gyu don (Beef with rice) was a little disappointing. The rice was soaked in water, almost like porridge and the beef was not fresh. However, the staff were friendly. All in all it was a good experience.
Re transport you can catch a train to Brighton Beach station and walk up Were Street, a little far though or catch the bus that goes along New Street and get off at Were Street and head east towards Hampton St once again walking.
The ambiance and service is friendly but basic. However this is surpassed by the quality of the food, quantity of choice and the fantastic value for money.
