Dined in the Cottage Restaurant on the evening of 18 Feb 2012. The Restaurant was busy, but not full. The dining room was uninspiring, and we were under an airconditioning duct, which made us cold. There was a small group, and we had what I would describe as one of the worst pub meals I've ever had. Each course, and drinks, required us to prompt the waiting staff (who were friendly and helpful, but not attentive - perhaps they were understaffed). It was obvious that orders were getting lost in the kitchen at some point. There was a gap of 25 minutes between the service of the first of our entrees, and the last. Main meals were similarly affected. Some of the entrees seemed fine. I had eggplant chips in a chick pea batter - it was oily, and completely lacking in flavour. Not worth waiting that length of time for, and certainly not worth $16. My partner had a seafood cocktail which was poorly presented, and looked far from fresh. For main I had chicken parmagiana (for want of anything else - the menu was very uninspiring), and it was overcooked, oily, and had far too much cheese on it. The chips were fresh, but the salad was coated in a sweet mayonnaise that was horrible. Certainly not up to the $26 price tag. My partner had fish and chips. The fish was oily and lacked flavour. The chips were fine. I can't comment on the other meals. We didn't have the Cottage Restaurant's deserts, because it was a birthday party we had bought a cake (they didn't charge anything for that). Coffee was fair, but, again, took a long time to come. I won't be back again.

Approximate cost: $28

The food and service is what you find at a typical country pub... good food, good service nothing overally special. I have always had a good meal there and the staff are really friendly. This is the pub the locals to go, the Esplanade is where the tourist go. This pub is much friendler than the Esplanade and the food is much better.

We attended the bistro part of the hotel on a Saturday night of a very hot, busy weekend. There was 5 of us. They had 2 sessions going and both were booked out.

This is a typical, basic pub, nothing special in the set up or décor. The staff seemed friendly enough. You had to line up to order at the cashier and they bought the meals to your table when they were ready.

The menu was HUGE and varied a lot which may be why some of the dishes were good and others very average.
The fish dishes seemed to be good, the rest average. The vegetable risotto (which came out about 15 minutes after everyone else's) had the taste and consistency of a packet mix. The “Moroccan spiced” chicken breast did not actually have any spices on it.

The wine menu was varied and had a good selection to choose from.

There was meant to be a DJ starting at 9pm, he did not start until some time after 10 by which time most people had given up and left.

The facilities were clean and tidy.

Approximate cost: $20
