Switched to HCF as you could select what hospital excess. My level of cover was the same when transferring but my previous hospital covers excess was $500 and the policy I selected with HCF was $250. My monthly payments were higher because of this which was fine but when I had to go to hospital a few months after transferring, they said I would need to pay the previous $500 hospital excess despite my policy and despite paying a higher monthly premium for a $250 excess. They never explained this to me and when I queried it they blamed me for not asking the question. I was told that there are no waiting periods for the same level of cover. So I basically switched only to pay a higher monthly fee for the same hospital excess of $500 for a 12 month period. How is that fair? Not happy with the service and I will be switching back to my previous HF. Do not recommend this health fund.

I am filming a three part documentary on HCF. Email me at [email protected] if you would like to be involved and go on film to discuss your personal experiences with HCF. Filming will be taking place in mid January 2022 in Sydney. Regards Phil.

This company is a disgrace. Long story short: We updated our bank accounts and logged online straight away, updating the claim details instead of the payment details by accident, so when we received a CANCELLATION email due to non payment, we immediately changed the payment details online and received a misleading text message advising that payment details had been successfully updated however unbeknown to us the account was still inactive, 6 months later we realise payments have not been coming out. Not one email or phone call after this and their response is that there is nothing they can do to reinstate our policy and basically “we don’t make phone calls” Thumbs down for service, if you are a busy family who own their own business and aren’t on top of all of your payments coming out, BE CAREFUL!!! We never should have changed from Bupa.

Customer service unqualified to answer questions over the phone with regards to claims. Different customer service reps providing different information.

Today the rep was extremely rude.

There is nowhere else to write a review for HCF Overseas Visitor Health Cover so here I am. I would strongly suggest to anyone looking for overseas visitor cover as a temporary resident in Australia to look elsewhere for cover. I was with them HCF for 2 years and have now switched to a better provider.

I had to chase up roughly 75% of the claims I made with HCF because it was processed incorrectly. This led to me taking a compliant with the Ombudsman.
Their customer service agents often didn't give me correct information and the policy was misleading in what it covered for ED visits.

tried reviewing on google reviews, After 6 days my review gets deleted with no formal response. Very odd indeed. let me repeat myself so others can get a transparent view which is unbiased. this occurred at the sydney cbd

Its not so much the staff but the system. Been a member for over a decade. Spend close to $1600 per annum and close to $20k over the past decade on premiums only to have a lackadaisical ten minute express check up and clean this morning which lacked professionalism.

Booked an appointment with the hygienist almost a month in advance. Got a call this morning en route to say the hygienist has called in sick and they’d be able to accommodate me with another dentist which is fair.
It feels as if they’ve done half a job yet still charge a premium on my membership.

Just heard another customer attend this morning to say that they were fully booked – this customer had an emergency dental problem. They told him that they are unable to specify a wait time…

Not sure where customers funds are going to. There really has to be an inquiry info private health funds.

Approximate cost: $2000

Terrible experience with the Pregnancy swaddle program... of course signing up was easy, it wasn’t until I was 20 weeks pregnant, I was told I wasn’t eligible for the Swaddle Program.
The communication, lack of customer service and clearly the training/knowledge about this pregnancy program isn’t of a high standard across the sales team, that - or they just care about taking your money, with no explanation on rules and regulations.
I was told the original ‘voice recording’ would be listened to, and if inadequately explained, HCF would honour the Swaddle Program, over a month later with multiple phone call attempts on my end, I finally receive a response saying ‘they don’t have any voice recording and there’s nothing they can do.’
Now over 27 weeks pregnant, and no idea where I’ll be delivering our baby at this stage... not to mention the added cost, and stress.
I certainly don’t recommend changing health funds, especially to HCF, if you’re after quality, care and assurance.

HCF really needs to work on their communication, both across their own departments and with their OVHC division. I moved from HCF Overseas Visitor Health Cover assuming that they are the same company but later found out that they do not talk to each other and need to go back and forth to make sure I was covered the same level of cover for my claim. The customer service experience got worse after. I was already advised that I am covered for a colonoscopy procedure on March. I had to delay the procedure to June and reconfirm it again with them which their Clinical Team did confirm that I am covered in writing. I was later rang by the hospital and the doctor that I am not covered by HCF and need to provide payment before the procedure. Had to go back to HCF customer service team again and hasn't been resolved yet which will potentially delay my procedure again. This is extremely frustrating, having to worry about the financial side of it on top of my health issues even though I have been with them for one and a half year now. Never had this issue with my previous health fund (Allianz). Very disappointed in their customer service.

After 10 years with HCF I'm now leaving them due to incurring $600 of medical expenses they would not cover (gyno, ultrasound & reflexology) under Singles TOP Multicover. Please be warned that even if your provider has a number it doesn't mean you are covered, even when you have the highest cover. It's their legacy products ONLY that are covered, not the current ones. And they won't put anything in writing to tell you that.

Approximate cost: $2260

Switched to HCF from Medibank private. HCF are in my experience much better and I didn't have to reserve any waiting periods. Would definitely recommend.
