4 reviews about Gurkhas Nepalese Restaurant

We have eaten here a few times and will be going back - it tends to be fairly quiet on a weeknight and you can hear yourselves without having to shout, always a plus with my partner.
The first time we ate here we ordered a chilli beef and a goruko masu (beef with coriander) with rice. The curries were tasty but I found it a bit short on vegetables and for the price, a little expensive. ($16 approx for each meat dish). The second time we ordered their Simple Feast for $22 approx a head. Wow! Huge variety with plenty of yummy food.
The standout was the entree, Gurkha's special. It appeared to be similar to vegetable samosa filling in an open shell with yoghurt on top. It was delicious and afterwards my partner proclaimed it 'the hero of the meal.' I think he may have watched Masterchef a bit too much. The mains were Chilli Chicken, Goat curry, Potato & Chick Peas, Coconut Rice and Nepalese Salad, served in small bowls on a metal tray. This was really enjoyable, was more than enough for the two of us, and provided enough vegetables. I found the potato and chick peas very moreish and could not help picking at it, despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of chick peas.
Dessert was a choice of Rato Mohan (dumplings in syrup) or Kheer (rice pudding). We got one of each, both were delicious. Out of the four desserts on the menu we've tried three and would recommend these two, crepes not so much. The rice pudding is cold, but oh so creamy and delicious. Yum.
I would definitely recommend one of the banquets. They are reasonably priced and allow you to sample a variety of dishes. There is a good selection of vegetarian dishes and your vegetarian friends will have plenty to choose from, including their vegetarian banquet.

Approximate cost: $10-$12 veg; $15-$17 meat; $21-$38 per head for banquets

i went there with my boyfriend as we have bought voucher online, their food is awesome, we tried mixed grill, saffron rice, roti with chickpeas curry?, and the most awesome : Prawn with mild curry. all their food are nice, we loved them all, but their prawn is so yumm, spices were not overbearing and the prawn was juicy and tender.

Nice ambience and decoration, good for get together with friends

downside : the location, a bit quiet in that area

Approximate cost: $18

Not bad value . Great food and good for vegetarians. Yes some dishes did not seem to match the price charged but overall a nice place with friendly staff

Great variety of food. Very tasty and good quality. The banquets are great. Good for a group of friends or a small party. You should book ahead as it tends to be very busy. Not very expensive even though I think some of the meals were over priced
