I was in Tassie during December 2016 and I was lucky enough to find the Gone AWOL Cafe. They open early so I had breakfast there almost every day. The food was excellent, the eggs cooked to perfection every time. The coffee was delicious and the service great. The meals I had for lunch were just so delicious. I will return when next time I visit. I highly recommend the Gone AWOL Cafe, it's a beautiful little hide away to relax and have a very enjoyable meal. Bev

Rather dissapointed in the whole thing. We must have picked the wrong food item. The description said egg, mushrooms, and roasted capsicum on pide. It was cut in two to share, and yes, there was egg and on each half there was one small strip of capsicum, and one slice of what looked to be store bought (ie, tinned/bottled) mushroom. No butter or sauce/relish of any kind on the sandwich, so it was rather dry and very bland.
We saw others in the cafe with what looked to be fairly decent sandwiches which, if we ever go back, we will probably try.
However, we won't be having the coffee again. We'll probably go for a juice, or just plain water. I like my coffee, and will tell everyone when I find a good coffee...... this is not one of those times.
I've given a link below to a pic of the pide.... if you go there, don't order it!!
On top of that, we had to sit on a low, square cube/box and balance our food and drinks on a tea chest for a table that was quite wobbly because of the uneven floor. Quaint, but not what people with crook knees should be doing. I understand that the business is up for sale.... if it gets new owners, here's hoping they can fix it up a bit. The only thing we liked about this visit was looking at the inside of one of Hobarts old buildings.
We'll be in that area again soon, and might try it again, or give it a miss and go for the wood fired pizzas at The Duke (pub) across the road.
