if you love chicken, you should check out this place. it is a good alternative for kfc. you can choose the flavor of your chicken and their prices are reasonable. i definitely recommend this place.

Plenty of fried chicken places are popping up but you can't go past Gami. The chicken here is like no other, be sure to get in early as it can get packed at around 7.

I've recently taken to having this delivered now, it's a $25 minimum but totally worth it.

Think an asian interpretation of KFC with lots of Asahi to wash it down, and you have Gami.
It is quick, good value and great for hearty group gatherings. A favourite amongst the boys and young at heart.

Friend has his birthday dinner here, and he paid for everything so I'm not really sure on how much it actually cost. I'd heard a lot about Gami before and was really eager to try their chicken. And I must say it definitely lived up to its expectations. Also, be prepared to get your hands dirty!! The sauces are absolutely delicious and the chicken is beautifully cooked. You can order rice if you feel odd just eating the chicken on its own. The sweet chilli one is very sweet and very spicy, but really tasty.

Another surprising thing was the cheese and corn dish. My friend ordered it so I have no idea what it's called, but it's essentially melted cheese cooked in a sort of frying pan with corn kernels. It's not overly cheesy in terms of flavouring but it's definitely for people who like cheese. A spoonful or two for those who like cheese in moderation should be alright.

They say Gami is also famous for their house beer. I'm not really much of a beer drinker so I couldn't taste what was so good about it, though I do agree that it is very smooth. They also offer other Asian beers as well as other Korean alcohol beverages like soju or rice wine.

Overall I really enjoyed the food here, I didn't take much notice of the service though it did appear they have limited staff. But the food came out pretty fast so I'm assuming the service is good. The staff seemed friendly though you might need to get out of your seat if you need something and approach the staff at the counter/bar because they might be busy or not see you from where they're stationed. I would definitely return again for more chicken and more cheese and corn. Make sure to book in advance so you don't miss out!

Korean Deep Fried Chicken... that's all you really need to know.

There are only 2 Gami venues in Melbourne, and they are both quite small and often require bookings. We went to the one around the corner from Flagstaff station, which had space (they other one was full). Whilst the place might seem a little ragged, that is part of the charm - you're here to eat fried chicken, not caviar. Of course, they have other stuff as well, like kimchi pancake and topokki (the topokki is actually quite excellent) but you'll come here primarily for the chicken.

They have their chicken in 3 different flavours, and they come family style to share. Each plate is $27-$30 depending on whether you mix and match, but this is more than enough to share amongst a group people. In fact, we shared one $30 plate with a few sides among 4 people, which works out extremely well value-wise per person. Their beer on tap is also pretty good too.

Lastly, I gotta say, whilst somewhat oily and most likely fattening, it's not on the level of your KFCs - so you don't need to feel TOO guilty about your hedonistic pigging-out tendencies here!

I'm actually planning to go again, but make sure you go in a group, as the portions are made to be shared amongst several people. Mmmm, deep-fried goodness...

Approximate cost: $27-30

Best Korean Fried Chicken I've had in Melbourne. My favorite is the one with Sweet Chilli sauce. It's served with pickled radish and Korean coleslaw, yummy. I also love the Gold Bang Ei, so spicy and full of flavours.

A great place for greasy chicken soaked in sauce with a good jug of beer! Good value and recommended to dine in a good size group so you get to try all the flavours of chicken. A good night out and reflects good value!
