This company are CROOKS! They took an extra $150 from my credit card on the basis that it was towards the insurance excess and would be refunded if the car was returned safely. We returned the car in perfect condition but they never refunded our money. They didn't answer phone calls or e-mails. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Dave is a Figian gentleman and I highly recommend his business. I have hired a small car more than once and he has picked me up and dropped me back to caravan parks where I park my large motorhome which is too large to drive around the gold coast. Daves is a father & son team and I have the utmost respect for them and their business principals and their rates are very good. I have used other bigger rental firms but will only use Daves Car Rentals in future when in Brisbane or Gold Coast. Congratulations Dave, You are great. from Mike & Glenys Schramm

This seems to be wrong company referred to in other reviews. Amil is not and will never be associated with Daves Car Rental as these are two different companies. Daves Car Rental is a family owned company owned and run by Aussie Dave and he does not practice unethical means of obtaining money from his clients. Daves Car Rental does not hire trucks and bikes. They deal with cars only.

Do not use this agency - they don't follow their own contract terms, take your money without permission and don't even have the common courtesy to respond to your queries once they've stolen your money.
We were on a family holiday on the GC in Dec/Jan 2015 and it seems that while parked at a shopping centre, someone bumped into and dinged the front number plate. We noticed the damage upon returning the car and took photos and alerted Amil (Dave's father who seems to run the company) straight away. He held on to our $5000 deposit for almost 10 weeks without making any attempt to contact us - even though we tried several times to contact him about our money and the fact that we were unable to use our credit card for as long as he didn't release the funds. They just didn't care, and when he finally got in touch with us, he took almost $2000 from the credit card without sending us paperwork to review and sign off as permission to take the money. According to their own contract, they are supposed to send us a Schedule of Cost, which we review, sign and return to them before they take the money. This paperwork never arrived and we woke up one morning to find our money taken without permission. This is theft and despite us trying for over a month to contact him, he fobbed us off by saying that the paperwork was in 'the mail' - and then refused to take our calls or return our messages.
These guys are crooks - given the other reviews I've now read about them I wouldn't be surprised if they used their tracking device to locate and deliberately damage the car. Spend a bit more and go somewhere reputable - it'll save you a big headache.

We dropped our car off after our holiday with no incidents of any damage. There was no-one there to meet us at airport so we were instructed to leave the car and lock the keys in the boot. Once we had checked in, we were called back out the airport any some small scratches were pointed out under the back bumper. We were told they may be able to be polished out and we would receive a phone call the next day telling us what would happen.

We heard nothing from the company and thought no more about it. Then our next credit card bill arrived with $720 taken from it!! We tried contacting the company. No returned calls. When I did speak to someone, they wouldn't tell me if the car was repaired or not.

In short. Poor communication. Similar stories to mine on the net. I am now in the process of contacting consumer affairs and seeing if anything can be done.

Used this company on a friend's recommendation and after shopping around, they were actually the cheapest. Lesson learnt-cheap is not always best!! All was great when we picked up the car and standard was as expected (couple of minor issues with bad power steering and faulty petrol gage). The car was returned at the time promised and in excellent order. A month after our holiday we find $560 taken from our account without our authorization. When we called to find out why, we were given the run around-no apology or explanation and no returned calls. When we started threatening to bring in our solicitor they got worse and totally refused to talk to us or respond to our email. We have had to involve our bank and solicitor to try & recover our money. In short these people are unprofessional and crooks. Please spend that little bit extra and stick to a large reputable company. Keep away from these people!!!!
