By far the worst real estate experience in 25 years of renting. We rented a property from Can Properties Noosa in July 2019. The property had been vacant for many years prior to us moving in. We advised that my wife had a per-existing sensitivity to mould and one of the reasons we left the previous property. After four months of living at the property it was clear there was an issue with mould as my wife's reactions were getting worse.

The agent was sent a remedy to breach to give them the option to fix the issue. After weeks we received a response to advise only that they did not agree to the remedy to breach. At no time was any representative sent out to check the property. We were just told that it was an external problem and there was no issue inside the property.

We advised the agent we were not able to stay in the property and asked what we needed to do to break the lease for medical reasons. The agent advised they would do everything they could to find a new tenant. Within a short period of time the agent relisted the property. We were paying $1,090.00 per week and the relisted price was $1,200.00 per week. We questioned the increase in the rent and were told they were able to do this as it was market value. The agent brought 2 potential tenants through without any result.

They finally reduced the rent after about 6 weeks to the current amount. After many emails and doctors’ visits we advised we were unable to stay in the property. We contacted the RTA and was given advise on how to break the lease for medical reasons.

Finally, we paid for a mould expert to come out and do testing of the property to prove our point that there was an issue within the property. The report showed quite conclusively there was a definite health risk to anyone living in the premises.

We sent the notice to leave, ensured all accounts were paid in full. Had the property professionally bond cleaned, and the yard done and vacated the property. The agent then claimed our bond for part of the remaining rent to the end of the lease.

We put in a QCAT claim to have the lease cancelled for medical reasons and to retrieve our bond. The agent then put in a counter claim for $27,000.00 for the remaining rent for the lease plus repairs to the property. The exit report did not have any additional damages on it, and we did not do any damage to the property ourselves. The agent claimed there were damages done by us but those damages they claimed were on the entry report with photos. So clearly not our responsibility or fault.

The agent was not responsive to many of our emails, phone calls and text messages and basically ignored us when we raised the issues.
They are by far the worst and most unprofessional Real Estate company I have ever had dealings with. We have never in all my years of renting a property had our bond kept, taken, or accused of damage to a property. Our previous references are impeccable.

We have always left any property we lived in, in the best possible and cleanest condition.
We finally went to court. The judge found in our favor, refunded all our bond, and dismissed their counter claim.

I rarely leave reviews, but people need to be wary of this company. Avoid Can Properties Noosa
