Great little cafe! Food was amazing, great variety, excellent service, decor was nice. Merlo coffee was great! Price was also good by comparison to beach front cafes.

Not knowing Runaway Bay AT ALL and being in search for breakfast lead us to come across this cafe, and being the only one we had seen in a few blocks, decided we may as well give it a go.

Caffeine Break is a pretty cute little cafe, I can't fault the decor. Menu was bland, in my opinion. Standard breakfast fare but nothing special outside of your run of the mill egg/bacon combinations. Also, they don't do EFTPOS which is slightly annoying.

Can't comment on the coffee as I got a iced chai instead, but my friend said it was okay and nice and hot (there was a big Merlos sign out front).

However, I have to say Caffeine is pretty good value - I got the banana hot cakes and while I usually like something a bit more sophisticated than ice cream and maple syrup on the side, the pancakes themselves were DELICIOUS. And getting 3 large hotcakes for $10 is a pretty good deal by my standards. Similarly, my friend's poached eggs and mushrooms were something like $8.

If you trend towards coffee/cafe snobbery as I shamefully tend to do, you probably won't be very impressed with this place. However, credit where credit is due - it is incredible value. Decent if unexciting food for a great price. You could do a lot worse for breakfast in a strange location.
