Boccaccio has the best prices on wines, beers and spirits that I know of. (I don't think I've been back to Dan Murphy since discovering this place.) The selection is excellent, too, with many Italian wines, digestivi and aperitivi, in particular, that you just don't see anywhere else. I love the shop itself, too: The old wheeled ladders running on tracks along the shelves are very cool!

Boccaccios has really great patisserie items and great coffee too. I especially love their freshly made olive bread as it really hits the spot. The prices might be a bit high, but that's expected for such great quality. I would highly recommend Boccaccios to everybody.

Approximate cost: $15

I recently bought a bottle of 2003 Seppelt Benno Shiraz as a birthday present for my father. The shop itself is unappealing - squeezed in next to an IGA supermarket, boxes everywhere, as well as a fair bit of dust.

Worth wading through it, however, as they have an excellent range, often at equally excellent prices. I was very impressed.

The website is superb - great layout, search ability and reviews from highly respected wine writers. Of course you might need to take these with a pinch of salt, but it's an excellent and enticing touch.

Perhaps try ordering from the website and save yourself a trip to the somewhat clapped-out old shop!
