Came here while on a visit to a friend's. Always bustling and crowded. Tried the infamous watermelon cake, and Yuzu Sesame cake - they are decent but not quite sure warrant the price tag of an average of $8-ish each. Preferred the Yuzu Sesame more. Also tried their coffee and bacon and egg slider which were average.

Most delicious treats found here! This place is a gem! Anytime I am around Rosebery this place is bustling because the food is literally amazing! Any treats I have bought here and taken away have never survived the trip home.

Based on fantastic reviews, my friends and I decided to give Black Star Pastry a go on the weekend. The cafe was pretty packed which I took to be a good sign, as was the friendly staff. We tried a few of their famous cakes, which were enjoyable but not worth the commendation I had been hearing or the expensive price tag. Nice to try for something different, but once was enough for me.

Was in the area and visited to try their famous strawberry and watermelon cake. Tasted good, but not as good as I've heard (though the good reviews I've heard came from their Newtown shop). Service was a bit sketchy too - I had to wait 10 minutes for a fresh batch of the cake to be made, which was fine. But when it was brought out, they served people who had come after me first, and also put my order on plates for eat-in instead of takeaway like I'd asked, then when they realised their mistake, dumped my plated cake into boxes and didn't give me a bag or cutlery like they did with other customers. Not sure if I'd return to this shop, might give Newtown a go, though.
