Just good old-fashioned homecooking and friendly service.
I love it every time. I work three jobs and when you need a good steak and veg to keep fit and healthy Black Angus is the place to go. Don't expect fancy decor, or MasterChef presentation. Expect a fabo meal at an decent price that I always eat to the last mouthful.

This is our favorite local restaurant and it never disappoints us. We go here quite regularly. The service is always friendly and efficient, the waitresses always have a bit of a chat and a laugh with us. They are also knowledgeable about the food, so helpful when trying to choose what to have. The owner/manager is often there as well and will come over and say hello and check that you enjoy your meals. The menu is mainly steaks, but they do have some other seafood, pasta and chicken dishes (i can especially recomend the mango chicken! The meat is always tender and perfectly cooked, with the sauces complimenting it. The meals are large (i often don't finish mine because they are big) and i love it that they come with a proper serving of vegetables or salad, they are not just a garnish, but part of the meal. Can't recomend it highly enough.

Normally I wouldn't waste my time making comments about restaurants, but given the fact that a number of tossers have taken time out to slag the Black Angus Steakhouse in Mornington, I felt that a little response is warranted. Until this week I had never been to the restaurant, but had only ever heard raves about the Black Angus, raves from serious food lovers who I have known and trusted for years. We decided to celebrate our son's birthday there on Thursday night and I Googled the restaurant to find their phone number. We were so concerned by some of the damning reviews that we seriously considered not going. Well I am glad we gave it a go.
We were welcomed by a very friendly owner and staff – fair dinkum down to earth Aussie welcome – not some limp wristed loser who cared more about himself than the customers, and a group of girls who smiled and wanted to be there, more-so than the vinegar faced bimbos who often work at other local establishments, who make you feel that they are doing you a favour by actually serving you. Drinks were ordered and on the table in minutes and our waitress wasn't just an order taker – she could actually answer questions about the menu, and was more than happy to make adjustments if required. All seven of us ordered steaks – and being a steakhouse the range was more than adequate and the choice of sauces was great. Between us we ordered the 500 gm rumps and the 400 gm scotch fillets with a variety of sauces. Despite their being about 18 other patrons there, all of our meals were on the table inside 40 minutes – served hot and cooked to perfection, with the sauces obviously freshly made – not supermarket goop, the salad was plentiful, fresh and a good variety of ingredients and the chips were brilliant – thick cut and plenty of them. We are all pretty big eaters and found the meals more than enough – fair dinkum, old fashioned serves, not some fancy yuppy mini serve presented on an oversized plate by some egotistical chef who can only cook with one hand because he is using the other one to gratify himself over his own self importance. 5 of us ordered deserts – again served fresh and plentiful.

The whole night cost us about $50 a head and we all walked away well contented.

If you want a top feed at a reasonable price from a fair dinkum Aussie bloke and his staff – try the Black Angus, if not, go elsewhere and post your crap online about other establishments.

Honestly I think you are the manager that works there. For someone to take such offense in other peoples comments its just a little suspicious don't you think and considering you don't normally review restaurants you sure wrote a lot and was quite passionate about putting other restaurants and staff down. My parents were stupid enough to go there again (booked by a friend who didn't know of our last experience there) a couple of months ago and low and behold the same things happened (see review above) but lucky for them they all walked out and refused to pay for a thing. I'm glad you had a great time, but I don't think it was necessary to discredit other peoples reviews that's not what this site is for. Its to write YOUR own experience.

I used to eat here quite regularly, but going by my last experience, never again I went there for my birthday with friends and family we got there at 6:00pm we waited an hour for our entrees to come out and they all come out at different times we then waited another hour just for the kids meals chicken nuggets and chips how difficult is that we finally got our meals just past 8pm but this stage we were not even hungry any more and there black angus sauce they put on there steak tasted like packet cheese sauce you buy from a supermarket disgusting poor food, poor service and we paid a fortune for it. I will never eat there again and I tell everyone I know don't go there.

I have to admit it has been a few months since I've been to the Black Angus to which I used to thoroughly enjoy, the last 2 times we had been the meals were far from what was served in the past. I hope it improves for it's own sake.

When you can get in ....FANTASTIC large and yummy meals , however , when they don't put enough staff on and turn you away with a family of 6 at 7.50pm is pretty disgraceful .

I reckon this place use to be the best place in melbourne to get a steak. It was my favourite restaurant for steaks. However the last couple of times that we have attended this restaurant the dining experience has been less than ordinary.

The last time we visited this restaurant was with another couple and 3 out of 4 people on our table got sick (vomiting etc on the way home) after eating the same dish. The forth person was fine.

The service is not as good as it use to be.

It is ashame to see such a great resturaunt become ordinary.

I find it funny that you say 3 out of 4 diners were ill on the way home as it takes approximately 6 - 8 hours for food to digest and approximately 12 hours for food poisoning to occur

melpapsM, where does it say "food poisoning" in this review ?.

I think its pretty common knowledge that food poisoning takes several hours to develop. There however are chemicals (such as common detergents, and meat preservation agents) that can make people sick, (ie vomiting, sore throats, etc).

I am not prepared to say what type of poisoning occurred - because i am not qualified todo so and i do not want to be liable. I am merely stating the facts, 3 people ate the same dish and became sick soon after, all experiencing similar symptoms.

Never disappointing! You go there for the great slabs of Angus beef, not so much for the veggies and the GIANT potato. You select your cut of meat, the sauce and how you want it cooked and it is always right. There are some chicken and pasta dishes on the menu - but you can't go past steak! The wine list is what you expect for a steak house and there is a good range of standard desserts - choc mousse, cheesecake, etc. The entree Devils on Horseback is interesting!
