Such a good thai restaurant! The lady that always serves us is so lovely and helpful! The food is really tasty and tastes fresh. My partner and I always leave here very full after trying to finish all the food :)

Delicious food and genuine heart felt service. This tiny place is a gem! The owner pays attention to the small details, like straightening the utensils, folding the napkins correctly and giving each customer his time. This generosity of the heart coupled with the amazing food gets me every time!

Basil Leaf is our local Thai and we love it. It's always a toss up between Thai Green Chicken Curry and their Phud Thai Noodles. Friendly and welcoming staff ... we LOVE this place! Only complaint is that they closed for so long over the New Year break.

After reading the reviews here we thought we would try this restaurant. We ordered take away and we were very disappointed. We had the beef massaman, green chicken curry, and Thai fried rice with prawns. It was all very bland with very little flavour. It was very westernised and we will not be ordering from them again. If you like your Thai to be authentic and spicy then I suggest you do not try this restaurant.

A great little restaurant tucked away in the Eastern suburb, Montrose, the Basil Leaf provides fresh an invigorating Thai food to their clientèle. The only drawbacks is getting a table is difficult and they only take cash - but the friendly service and good quality food is a must have. Excellent place to take family and friends or whisk in for a delicious takeaway. Leave McDonald's alone - this is a superior, healthier and tastier choice!

This restaurant stands out as a gem out in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Although it is very small (you need to book) and its decor understated, don't let that fool you into thinking it is ordinary. My husband and I have been going there on average once a month for the past 3-4 years and without fail the food lives up to a quality that is exceptional to say the least. We have been there as a couple and as part of a large group of friends and not once has the food been below the standard we have come to expect. Thavone is your host at the Basil Leaf and his delightful, friendly manner, along with his ability to select a wonderful combination of meals (some of which may not be on the menu) make for a fantastic night out. If you ask him very nicely, he may even sing a song for you!!

This is an extremely small restaurant and booking is a must (even mid-week). The food is absolutely magnificent - feel free to bring people here you want to impress and you won't be let down. The only issue is that they are BYO only - not fully licensed (although there is a licensed supermarket 40 metres up the road) and they do not take EFTPOS or Credit Cards, which is why I have rated them down on service.

You will have a great night and you won't be disappointed!

I've been to the Basil Leaf a few times and have tried lots of the dishes. The majority have been excellent - always fresh ingredients and each dish has its own distinctive flavour - not like some places where every dish seems to taste the same. The last couple of times we've asked the owner to choose some dishes for us - and we have had some beauties! You can also get a mix of entrees which are really good. The prices are reasonable - although we did get charged $2 each for corkage last time which added $8 to the bottle of wine we bought at the shop down the road. However the meal was great so we weren't too stressed about that - and we'll know for next time!

Genuine Thai style service. The owner works hard to serve and deliver great food, not always fast but relaxed.
