Great old theater. Much more interesting than the regular theaters. Make sure you check out the bathrooms too. They're an attraction in themselves.
Approximate cost: $14
Girlfriend took me here for a date, what a cool venue! Old fashioned, with carpetted grand stairs and an olden cinema makes a really cool atmosphere to watch olden and new films. Great experience, must try
So much fun!!! when there are no good movies at the cinemas what better way to spend the evening than at the astor theatre, you never have to choose. the staff are trendy and will add kahlua to your coffee if you ask. comfy seats and just an awesome place to be
Certainly a unique experience. The astor is dedicated to old films. Think of the tried and true classics, of which one viewing is not enough.
Housed inside a beautiful old theatre, the selection of titles range from silver screen to silent, hitchcock dramas to golden age oscar blockbusters. Tickets are comparative (slightly cheaper) than new releases at Hoyts/Village, and you'll definitely have a memorable experience.
Would be a good date night!
i was just thinking that! would be a perfect setting for a classic date, it's seems so old fashioned & classy (not to mention romantic) xx
The Astor is a unique way to go to the movies. Walking into the foyer invokes the feeling of going to the theatre for a show, with all of the buzz and atmosphere that goes with it just before a screening. The building itself is beautifully old and restores the grand feeling of being out for entertainment that is missing from the modern-day cinema. The Astor is an EXPERIENCE. They also play fabulous old, retro and classic movies that were watersheds of their time, so in that sense you don't just get entertained but also educated. Anything from Aliens to Pulp Fiction to marathons, these guys have it covered! If you want to expand your mind, have a great night out and do something a little bit out of the ordinary definitely check it out! Prices are so reasonable too!
Wow. It sounds like a real experience. Thanks for letting everyone know!
I love the Astor, it has a nice feeling to it, less processed feeling or something than the bigger cinemas. From the entry way, the ticket stubs, the candy bar to the beautiful old feeling inside the complex. Its the constitutions, its mabo, its the just... the Vibe.
I love the eclectic and interesting films and documentaries shown, and the theatre itself has reminds me of 'yesteryear' and is beautiful. Affordable prices. I love that they serve fresh cake too, I had lovely (and huge!) piece of apple cake. A very different vibe to other theatres :)
thanks for that info - I'll have to give it a try
This is a great cinema, the building is fantastic. The seats were comfortable and prices were reasonable.
i'm tempted to drop by just to visit the beautiful building architecture!
Have been to this cinema a few times. It is a lovely old cinema with that touch of nostalgia of days gone by.
You get to watch old fashioned movies (which I love) and relax and soak up the ambience of the place.
This cinema is best to go with your partner or friends rather than young children.
Wow, what a great theater! The building is amazing, and you really feel like you're experiencing the cinemas of old. Plus, they must be one of the only cinemas in Australia that actually have the double features. Additionally, you can experience movies that were before your time on the big screen - the way they were meant to be seen! Do yourselves a favor and check them out!
Approximate cost: $18
Thanks for the review, I shall have to revisit the Astor soon! It's been way way too long ;-)
