Another Melbourne Institution and I'm so glad we came here, to try this place The bar is modern, and has plenty of seating. Recommended to me by a friend, we all met up and had a great evening. The staff were so helpful at helping us to choose one of their many cocktails. It's all themed too, cocktails from different time periods. If you're in the area stop by, you won't regret it. Best cocktail bar in Melbourne that I have been too.

The style of 1806 is old school, from the surrounds, service, theatrics through to the actual drinks. Quite different from the smoke & science experience that you would get at another cocktail institution ie. Der Raum.
1806 is more of an old school class act, than post-modern science drama.
Really nice plush yet cosy atmosphere for a romantic evening. It manages to pull off the rich sophisticated conservative touch perfectly, without being overly opulent and glitzy. Very melbourne.

This place was recommended to us by the waiter of the hotel we dined in. We went along & so glad we did. It's full of charm, beautiful, velvet. We would never have walked in, but so glad we had this experience. The cocktails were on the pricier side $18-$19 but worth every cent. This is what Melbourne is all about, small, quiant, suprisingly amazing places that aren't overrun & full of character. & great service. Don't have any negative comments.

Amazing quirky bar with a HUGE cocktail menu. Besides being a regular bar, 1806 also offer cocktail making courses and murder mystery nights. The people that work in the bar aren't just there "doing their job" they really love it and want to learn. Most of the bar staff have also won award for their amazing cocktails

what i can tell you is .. I come here quite often and every visit that i made - always been fun and satisfied. if you never been here before the cocktail menu that looks more like a thick book or dictionary :) Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Price: a bit pricey but its worth it.

Take a trip back in time, take a seat at the bar for a some quick service and prepare to be amazed, watching the staff make the cocktails is a show! The menu is pages long, and on sale for you to attempt your bartending skills later on at home. These will be the best cocktails you've ever had

But the thing that really makes it is the quality of the cocktails. They focus on the taste rather than using gimmicks such as liquid nitrogen etc.

Slightly on the pricey side but you know you're getting quality.

The interior was amazing and waiters/bartenders looked really cool. Love the interesting/cool menu. I learned a lot about cocktails and the histories just by reading their menu. I ordered a strawberry margarita at $18. The margarita was quite disappointing, there were way too much salt on the glass rim. Every sip I took tasted like salt water.

Overpriced drinks! After reading the menu for ages -which was quite interesting- I made a selection, and it was by far both the smallest and most unpalatable drink I've ever received. My friends drink was equally unimpressive, to the point of being undrinkable. The atmosphere was the places saving grace, as it was lively and exciting. Would have loved for the drinks to equal that of the ambience. The snack food was pretty good. the waiters were an absolute pain, hounding us every few minutes to the point of annoyance, when we were clearly still reading the extensive and entertaining menu.

This is by far the BEST cocktail bar in Melbourne. The list is superb (and very educational), the staff are super friendly, helpful and efficient. You can book a table if you've got a few friends showing up and you don't need to put down any money for this (there are VERY few bars that will let you do this without a substantial deposit). The furnishings are dark and comfortable. The prices are reasonable - have been to many that are more expensive, but without the quality product. Food/snacks are really tasty, but the only negative I have for this venue, is that food takes a long time to get to your table. That said, this is a bar, not a cafe. Definitely recommend.
