Two new releases in from the fine folks at Love As Fiction Records

Bluebottle Kiss (Official) - Never Leave Town: Live in Sydney was recorded at The Crowbar on October 22nd, 2022. The show was part of Bluebottle Kiss’ reunion tour of Australia, following the reissues of their album “Patient” and EP “Somnambulist Homesick Blues” in the same year. It showcases the band’s extensive back catalogue, playing in peak form in their hometown with the 4-piece lineup of Jamie Hutchings, Ben Fletcher, Ben Grounds and Richard Coneliano. Pressed as a 140-gram double gatefold release, limited to only 250 copies. In-stock now for $75.

Big Heavy Stuff - Size of the Ocean was recorded with legendary producer Wayne Connolly at the helm. Their 3rd full-length release saw the band produce their most commercially successful album to date, refining their sound with “subtlety and restraint’ but still paired with their trademark guitar riffs. To maximise the fidelity of the new vinyl release, the album is now split over a limited-edition double vinyl (one disc in translucent blue and the other in translucent yellow), which allowed space to include some additional tracks on side D. 3 tracks, originally seen on the “Mutiny” EP (2003), now close out the last side of the double album. In-stock now for $80.

Happy new album day to our mates across the ditch carb on carb!

Take Time is the 3rd LP from the New Zealand duo, out today on Black Wire Records. Catch them playing up the road (literally!) this Sunday at Pari Ari with Sun Run, Amends, S.C.U.M. and Del Slackers

“Carb on Carb, made up of Nicole Gaffney (vocals, guitar) and James Stuteley (drums), are an emo/indie punk band from the midwest of New Zealand’s North Island. Known for touring restlessly pre-covid, the band took time over the enforced break to pursue other projects (Nicole - To The Front fka Girls Rock!, James - writing and recording music in Maori, the Indigenous language of New Zealand, under How Get), and to write their third album Take Time.

Take Time, as the title suggests, ruminates on time; it looks backwards before looking forward, to triangulate the right place to be in the present. Recorded at what the band believe is one of the country’s most underrated all ages music institutions, The Stomach, it was mixed by Chris Teti of The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die.”

Carb On Carb - Take Time - $40 (Black Bio-Vinyl LP limited to 250 copies)

“To All Trains” - the sixth and final studio album from Shellac is out tomorrow. Ordinarily, Shellac releasing their first record in 10 years would be a joyous occasion, but it’s one tinged with sadness and grief following the sudden loss of Steve Albini last week.

Undoubtedly one of the most important figures in underground rock music over the past 4 decades, Steve’s work as a performer and producer is unmatched by any other individual. As well as his songwriting and musicianship with Big Black and Shellac, he left an even bigger legacy recording some of the most defining albums of our time. Nirvana, Pixies, The Breeders, PJ Harvey, and Slint only begin to scratch the surface of what is an astonishing body of work. Our racks are constantly filled with records he’s worked on that we adore, and his unwavering DIY ethos had an immeasurable influence on generations of musicians.

We’re deeply saddened but grateful to have one last piece of his work to celebrate.

The Saints’ legendary 1978 sophomore album (and first with HORNS!) “Eternally Yours” has been re-pressed by Music On Vinyl on Pink colour wax. Individually numbered and limited to only 1,000 copies.

Featuring cult classics such as Know Your Product, Private Affair and This Perfect Day, “Eternally Yours” saw Bailey, Kuepper & co. branch out from the raw punk roots of their debut “(I’m) Stranded” (released only a year prior) and incorporate brass, harmonica and R&B influences to create one of the most timeless records to come out of the first wave of punk.

In-stock now for $65 a pop. Whilst it’s not necessarily an album that needs the bells & whistles of a limited edition colour press, we’re still happy it’s back in print and available again for the first time in nearly 10 years. Hopefully an Australian label in the future does a nice, stock-standard black vinyl press that stays in print so everyone can own a copy!

Queen Bey has landed!

A few supplier issues & delayed imports meant we had to wait a couple of extra weeks, but the 2nd Instalment of Beyonce’s trilogy is now finally here. We held out for a better import price, so we’ve got the 2xLP set in-stock now for $70 a pop

“Beyoncé conceived Cowboy Carter as a journey through a reinvention of Americana. Mostly labeled a country album, Cowboy Carter also blends together diverse musical genres such as R&B, pop, hip hop, blues, soul, rock and folk music. Conceptually, the album is presented as a radio broadcast by fictional station "KNTRY Radio Texas”, with country singers Dolly Parton, Linda Martell and Willie Nelson acting as disc jockeys.“

Happy J. Lo release day!

One of our all-time favourite Aussie songwriters Jess Locke releases her 4th solo album “Real Life” today via Dot Dash

“Real Life is the result of Melbourne singer songwriter Jess Locke trying to make sense of a world that feels more and more unreal. Some parts of the album simply expressions of despair at a world that feels more and more dystopian. Writing this record, Locke found herself thinking a lot about what it means to live when you know that one day you will die, not just individually, but as a species, as a planet. But as much as our impermanence is very much a fact, it is also a fantasy, some theoretical, future event. So while it’s quite a heavy topic, a lot of the album is a process of returning to the present moment, realising that it’s the only thing that’s real and that the only purpose in a life that will one day end is to experience it, and that’s quite liberating on a personal level. Music is possibly one of the most effective tools for grounding yourself in the present and, in making this record, Locke found that, along with the darkness, she found moments of revelation - an escape from the fantasy of what life could be into the reality of what it is.”

Jess Locke - Real Life out today and in-stock on limited Translucent Orange vinyl, $55 a pop.
