There's a lot to like about this restaurant. For starters it's in an old bank. They've kept the character, especially downstairs in the "vault" bathrooms. Nicely decorated, good food and good service. We had a bruschetta entree with fig and goat's cheese which was lovely and my pasta main was beautifully cooked and so tasty. Look forward to returning.
Always friendly and always open - well they seem to be.
Have had a number of items from here but my favourites are the party pies and party quiches - take them home, heat them up and eat too many. Yum.
The redesigned layout was a bit too open for my liking and quite cold - the chairs were really uncomfortable - almost like they don't want you to get too comfy for too long.
The food was typical pub food, nothing special. My husband had the curry special which he said was delicious.
The pizzas, although tasty, were small. The people we were dining with were healthy eaters so we needed to order quite a number of them along with some tapas (these change regularly) to be satisfied. The food was good as was the attentive service - just not great value. There were a few reds which they let me have a taste of each before I chose which was really nice.
First of all the decor is great - set up really well and I love being able to see the kitchen and all that goes on. The food was tasty and a little more generous than I was expecting. I had the sardines for entree which was delicious, but would've preferred white/sourdough instead of the rye bread. Steaks were good as were the hand cut chips. Mac and cheese was just ok. Service was very average on this occasion which was disappointing as it was a birthday dinner, however we'd still return as the food was good.
Approximate cost: $35
This bakery has delicious products. Their pies, pasties etc are lovely - crisp buttery pastry and chunky generous fillings. My favourite is the chicken and mushroom parcel. You can easily identify the ingredients and they're super tasty. Their custard tart is the best I've ever tasted - super creamy and soooo moreish. Also do great quiches and other cakes too. Only do bread Thursday to Sunday.
We had lunch here on Sunday and it was delicious. It's predominantly tapas style although there are a few a la carte choices. The tapas selection is great, and between the 2 of us we tried a number of dishes including the pork belly, beef rib slider, scallops, pate and fish and chip spring rolls - all of which were scrummy. Had a jug of Pimms for $14 - bargain, even though it was a carafe not a jug, but since they put all the fruit and ice in the glass, it was really good value. The service from 2 of the girls in particular was exceptional. It's easy to get carried away with these "little portions" so can cost more than a usual lunch however would highly recommend. My husband and I didn't like that the alfresco area was taken up with smokers so had to sit inside.
Approximate cost: $120 total
I'd like to share my experience in the hope of warning others against using this agent. The appraisal was to our minds, fair and yet after just one week we were urged to drop the asking price by almost $100K - this is not pocket change. We were badmouthed to potential buyers (not personally but as vendors), in that we were asking too much and needed to be put back in our place - this was from our agent, who we were paying to represent us. Along with a few other minor things on the way, the final straw for us was when he "misspoke" about the number of people through at an open. We had proof that only 1 group had been through but be told us there were 7 groups through with 1 returning for a second look. We only had our house on the market for 3 very painful weeks and every step of the way was made more difficult through dealing with this agent. I am more than happy to be contacted.
The worst thing about this place is having to choose just one cake/design. The range is incredible and Mel is truly an artist. The novelty cakes are a hoot, but it's the classy designs that take my fancy. Had the most beautiful birthday cake which not only look great but was delicious too. Highly recommend.
Steve has painted a number of rooms in our house and we are always happy with the result. He takes the time to make sure the colour shade is just what we want, he's professional, quick and the quality is second to none. On top of which, Steve is very likeable. Thrilled with his service.
