Joe is right - the GB is a great bar. It is quintessentially Richmond and it has a few things that nudge it over the edge for me - a pinball machine (last I checked, it was Scared Stiff), live music that ranges from the ludicrous to the sublime, and a fishtank in a TV. If you like kitsch, you'll probably like the GB.

Every Saturday morning from 7am-1pm, Gleadell St is closed off to traffic and becomes a Farmer's Market. If you live in Richmond or nearby, this is a great place to come for fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, seafood, dried fruits and nuts, honey, free range eggs, flowers... you get the picture! My favourite stall is the organic produce guys and the eggs are well worth it too. Look for seasonal bargains, like a whole tray of mangoes or strawberries for $6-8 in summer: perfect for jams and preserves.

Spuds with the lot - a great little spot. There are franchises all over Melbourne but this one's my local. A healthier alternative than many take-away places and they do salads too, for you Atkins junkies. Service is typical counter-style and varies depending on who's working: anything from blistering speed to infuriatingly slow.
Approximate cost: $7.50
OK. So, a lot of people are down on public transport. But don't tar all the PT companies with the same brush. Trams are cheap, plentiful and (relatively) clean and safe. If you manage to avoid being sideswiped by a car when you disembark, that is.
Approximate cost: $2.50 on a Sunday
A little hotspot at the quiet end of Bridge Rd. Killer vegetarian Indian fare. The lunch specials are a particular bargain but dinner time seems to be especially popular - particularly with local Indian families. I take this as a good sign!
Approximate cost: $12
A reliable 24 hour florist for when you need to "say it with flowers" at 4 in the morning. As you do. Also has a range of women's nightwear, teddy bears, vases and other small gifts. Handy for picking up a "panic present" that doesn't look like it was bought at 7/11.
Approximate cost: $5-100
A little haven of vintage, and vintage-inspired, fasion and collectables among the cheap'n'nastiness of Bridge Rd fashion. Mike is almost always there and seems to never forget a face - he's clearly passionate about what he does and will go out of his way to find something you'll like.
Excellent vegetarian counter-service cafe with a focus, as the name suggests, on tofu. A wide range of dishes are available, changing daily, with plenty of free extras like dips and olives available too.
