Thomas Pools – Capalaba - Business owner Brian Farrall with 25+ years experience
It all started to fall apart on day one, Feb 2016. Apparently the initial measure up that was conducted for the quote and was based on .... was wrong, after we signed we were told WE were 600mm short at one end to meet the planned and originally quoted dimensions in the concrete. I cannot fathom how they quote and then tell us after we sign that we need to pay more. The staff member on site said he can still do it but it will cost us an extra $800, we reluctantly said yes as we needed to it meet our pathway at the other end as planned. Next was replacing all the plumbing that they ripped out in the dig, another unexpected $800+. The estimate for the cost of the actual dig was way over the quote so even though they have been building pools for a living for years they still cant figure out how much it will cost to dig a hole, down more $$$$. Then just after they sprayed the concrete (I noticed this, not sure why they did not) that they forgot to install our air grid inside the seat bench as per our contract. Next was the ‘missing’ conduit needed for earthing our pool fence, it was not installed in the concrete. This conduit and the air grid lines were all eventually added haphazardly laid over the existing concrete shell and then ‘covered up” with a second layer of concrete, this lifted the height of the seat bench 700mm. Not happy. Even their own contracted paving guys were surprised by the way this was done. The pool light was installed hard up against the seat bench, almost buried in concrete. Extremely poor communications by all at Thomas, very unprofessional in handling our questions and expectations. On a number of occasions I spoke with the staff about getting the chlorinator installed, he said our electrician should do it. I would have thought that the builder did this, not according to the staff. I had to do it myself. We went to Capalaba to discuss these issues with them at their display, I had taken photos to show them, and when told about our complaints they smiled and chuckled. They did say “the staff should have come to me”..…no further discussion was had. We left there totally unsatisfied with the fact that they offered no solutions or constructive feedback, they just referred us back to the same staff and stated they would handle everything and we would eventually be happy once the pool is finished. Final issue, a non-return valve from sand filter to waste pipe was installed at the last minute, it leaks.

Use Thomas Pools at your own peril! Or if you have plenty of cash to splash.
