I wish I have read your comments before I have my job done. The skirting was just attached to mine old skirting. Both skirting are low profile and hence it sticks out. People who has seen it think it is ridiculous. The response was that "the installer has installed the standard skirting in the package. There is nothing wrong with that." The shop said that is normal. But agree to replace the skirting if I pay for the material. Then I found that some floorboards were bouncing. The response is even more interesting. "That means your floor is not level. Levelling is not our job. You just have to live to it." Levelling may not be part of installation package but at least the installer should stop laying the boards on top after they remove the carpet and found that the floor is not level. Save yourself some troubles and get professional who cares about how to job finished.
We recently had timber floors put in and it was quite an ordeal. What was meant to take a promised 2 days ended up taking nearly 5 days and the job was just adequate. There was alot of miscommunication between the shop management and the actual workers which meant lots of mistakes and re-work.
