I am a snob. When my boyf used to show me the discounted items at the regular store, I would always screw my nose up - who wants someone else's castoffs!

But after being cajoled to visit rite price, I have become a JUNKIE! This place is more than just near-expired foods, it is a whole supermarket of good, useful, wonderful items at a fraction of the regular supermarket cost.

For example: I use St Ives face scrub, and it usually costs $8-10. They had some on sale for 99c! NOT near expiry date, just a random bargain!
There are name-brand biscuits, decent bread, chips and snacks, and plenty of toiletries.
Some items ARE a bit weird, more the kind of stuff you'll find at a $2 shop than a supermarket, but everything else is fantastically cheap. Give yourself a couple goes to get used to shopping without all the wonderful, fancy surrounds of the regular supermarket, and you'll begin to see you can SAVE real money!

Seriously, if you've not tried rite price, I recommend giving it a go. I am still in love!!

i often pop in here for a look and grab some bargains, their pricing is so much cheaper than supermarkets even though some of it is out of date so check the items first, very hard to park here but they really have bargin prices on their groceries, frozen items, meat, household goods and personal care products you will be amazed when you look at your receipt after your purchases and see you did fill your trolley for alot less than the bigger supermarkets

I always end up spending a few extra dollars on random junk though - because curiosity gets the better of me! I don't regret it; I've found new favourite snacks, sweets and products just by trying stuff out.

Rite Price is a discount grocery store. Many of their items are out of date, however many are not and are sold by Rite Price for various reasons, such as businesses going broke etc.

The prices are sometimes incredibly low - and for a few items they are just 'normal' like regular supermarket prices.

I've had to ask for help on some occasions (as I've bought boxes and boxes of items!) and the Prospect store staff have pretty much always been very helpful and obliging.

The store is not luxurious but always tidy and you can get your items quickly and easily - which is what counts.

For anyone who might turn their nose up at shopping at Rite Price, I'd say give it a go because you often see 'luxury' brands/items pop up in there for a fraction of the normal cost.

I have shopped there reasonably often over a period of 2 years (prospect store) 2008-09, less so in 2010. The prices are cheap and the cashiers are friendly. You need to be aware that this is a 'clearance' store - but there is a difference between near to date and past date! so watch for 'out of date' items as there are many of those. Not sure about the legality of it... however use common sense to avoid things that easily go stale or off such as anything with nuts in it. other things such as sauces, cans, sweets, etc tend to last long after due dates so these are much safer bets. they also stock cheese, some of which is over date, but that is ok for most cheese it improves with age :-P a tip: you don't need to buy multiple of a given item to get the discount price (as suggested by most of the price labels). 1 item will be a fraction of the label price e.g the label may say 4 for 2$, but if you just buy one then it will be 50c. Buy one first, try it and go back for more if it turns out ok! I would recommend them for the budget shopper who has their brain switched on and flexible working hours. You will find the trading hours are not convenient if you work full time. Now that I work full time I am not able to get there often. It is a pity they didn't open on Saturday or one or two days after 5pm. Overall worth a go :-)

Food is a lot cheaper to buy from there than to buy from a normal supermarket but have to be careful of dates of food. Helpful and service is o.k but you have to pack your own food.

Approximate cost: $20.00

This is a supermarket that has discount food. There is a huge selection of different foods frozen and packaged food. many of the products are past there best before date (only just) or close to it. this place has huge bargins for food that will be eaten with a week or so....
