We chose to move our daughter to the ‘kindy room’ at KG Ferny Hills from another childcare centre in McDowall – near my work. At the previous centre, my daughter was always sick & was becoming progressively more withdrawn. The difference this move has made, is hard to express in writing.
My daughter has a significant speech delay and earlier this year, I did not think she would be able to start prep in 2017. I was finding it very hard to stay on top of the homework given to us by our speech therapist, so my daughter’s educators asked me to bring it in. They made it a fun daily activity that other kids in the room happily joined in. This helped my daughter to not feel like the odd one out & also helped other children with their speech development.
Not only has my daughter’s speech significantly improved, but her overall confidence and willingness to express herself and interact with other children. She’s now more than ready to start school in the New Year. She is a different child, happier & healthier with far less sickness than previously.
I can’t thank the educators enough for their dedication and professionalism. They’re also just really beautiful people and my daughter adores them. The centre is impeccably clean & I have no doubt that the centre’s Montessori / Emilio resources, toys & teaching practices have fed her natural curiosity and willingness to learn – like never before. She has truly blossomed and for this, I have nothing but the highest praise, respect & gratitude. Thank you ladies – you’re outstanding!!

I was recommended this centre by two of my friends and am now on the waiting list for a spot. I have been for a tour of the centre and the Director was so helpful and friendly and made both me and my daughter feel at ease. She introduced me to all of the staff, not just the ones that would be in my daughter's room and they were all so lovely. The children were all playing happily and were being kept busy with lots to do in every room we walked into. My daughter is definitely keen to get into the fairy garden and mud pit. I got a great feeling about this centre and am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that I can get in.

There is a very high staff turnover (even for an industry with high turnover it seems exceptionally so). We've been blessed with some fantastic staff and some not-so-fantastic (but not terrible) but the turnover is such that as soon as my child gets used to a staff member, she leaves and is replaced by another.

The facilities seem okay and there is a range of activities and incursions organised but the care and attention to the children really depends on who you is there when you drop the child off in the morning - and that changes all the time.

Overall, not terrible but management seriously needs to invest in staff retention and address whichever problems are causing staff to leave/be fired.
