Buyer Beware – I had an absolutely terrible experience with this company!

I went with this company for my curtains for 2 reasons:

1. The woman who quoted the job, Ta, told me that the holes in the wall left by the removal of my old blinds would be filled in as part of the job (the other company who quoted were upfront and said they do not do this).

2. I wanted my curtains to be much wider than the window so that when the curtains are open they do not cover any part of the window and they cover the walls at the sides of the window. I was very specific about this when discussing my requirements with Ta. She quoted just under the amount of my other quote to do this so I went with her.

When the curtains were installed, neither of the above points were met. I was charged more to have the holes filled in and the width of the curtain poles and curtains are not long enough so now the curtains cover the edges of the windows.

I have contacted Ta multiple times and asked her why I have not been delivered what I asked for. She said I could get the curtains wider but it would cost more (hence she under quoted to win the job and never intended to meet this requirement). She has therefore lied to me and delivered curtains that do not meet my specifications just to get the amount of the quote under the other quote and to win the job.

The curtains were not installed correctly and I had to get another installer to fix the original installation.

They required that I pay the whole amount upfront so I had nothing to hold back should the job not be as I requested – which it was not.

There are no measurements on the quote so I can’t go back and say that the job was quoted incorrectly.

Plus she sent me another person receipt WITH THEIR NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND CREDIT CARD DETAILS!!!

Absolutely terrible experience with this woman. She does not do what she says she will. She said she would come and sort the problems out but delayed multiple times and then sent an installer instead. I still do not have the width of the curtains I asked for.

House of Stuart have just finished installing my last set of curtains. They were expectionally accomodating and fulfilled all my requests. They customised blinds for my bathrooms and kitchen. Beautiful pelmets and curtins for both my husband and kids bedrooms and also our lounge room.

They had a lovely lady come out and measure our windows and show us swatches and ideas. Very friendly and drove all the way to our house in Burns Beach although their show room is in Osborne Park.

I most definitely reccomend, House of Stuart and will use them again in the future!

I ordered a linen sheer and pelmet for my daughters bedroom HOS had a great range to choose from and were competitively priced . The curtains look gorgeous. I will be back to finish the rest of my house !

On 23/07/15 I paid a 50 % deposit for bedroom curtains. The curtains were supposed To be triple pinch pleat for bedroom 1 & 2.

I was told 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. On the 4/09/15 [Removed name] called me to say I had to pay the balance of the curtains (total cost $2300) so she could release them and that they would be installed on Wednesday 10th September. I was given 8 different installment dates and times through until mid-October. I was offered free installation because of all the delays. Finally when the installer arrived with the curtains, bedroom 1 has three windows and the curtains were three different lengths.
Bedroom 2 curtains were pencil pleats and too long. (I ordered pinched pleats)

[Redacted name] returned to my house to re measure the length and take the curtains (bedroom 1) back to be fixed.
We moved the curtain rod higher to accommodate the curtains in bedroom 2 that were too long.

I had a discussion with her about the awful smell of the curtain lining. She said it was probably fumigation and that the material sometimes sat in the containers for months because they come from the overseas to the eastern states and then to Perth. She suggested putting a plate of carb soda in the room to help get rid of the smell.

After the alterations, I went to pick them up from the showroom and I spoke to [Redacted name] about the smell, she said she could not smell anything – amazing [Redacted name] could and she couldn’t. They made the mistakes but I had to chase them up and collect the curtains from the showroom myself.

I am now writing this review because I am fed up with the smell of my curtains. Everyone who has entered those bedrooms has asked “what is that smell” or they tell me I have mice. (which is exactly what they smell like?) with the hot weather we have had in Perth lately the smell is getting worse.

The whole process had been very unpleasant. It took 5 months to get my curtains, (they had my money and wouldn’t return it when I asked) numerous phone calls from me with the promise that they would call back and never did. I drove 40 minutes to their showroom trying to speak to someone and find out what was happening with my curtains.

Don’t pay the balance except COD. My curtains were not what I ordered originally and they stink. If anyone out there has a remedy to get rid of mouse urine without having to wash the curtains I would appreciated their advice.
I will never use the House of Stewart again.

The problems I had with House of Stuart have been rectified and is now under new management with Peter who is lovely and will assist with any problems.

Curtains are beautiful, ordering process was delayed and I would have appreciated more pro-active communication from the store.
