A group of 13 of us ate here on a Saturday for an 8 o'clock sitting. Upon arriving we were immediately seated passing the live band on the way to our table, thankfully we wee seated just far enough from it so we could hold a conversation and close enough to hear the funky tunes!

Our main waitress was from somewhere in Europe and possibly a backpacker and it looked like the majority of staff were backpackers which added to the experience. Aside from a few slight language barriers she was friendly and efficient. With the group this size we decided on the banquet at $45 per head.

We discovered the place is licensed so we ordered our drinks, before some of the group had a chance to sober up and we started nattering away. The drinks arrived quickly but I was a bit surprised to discover that the bottle of wine I had ordered was no longer in stock and they had replaced it with a different brand and type with no explanation or warning. We accepted the bottle since they had already opened it but I still found it presumptuous and a bit rude. The rest of the drinks were standard fare except my friends organic cola was out of stock and the sangria tasted like "punch". Call me a purist but I like my wine (albeit the wrong one) served in a wine glass- but drinking out of glass beakers contributed to the European experience!

The food started coming out quickly with hummus and Turkish bread, deliciously tiny olives and marinated mushrooms and capsicum. Followed by an assortment of other dishes like baked feta, fig and grilled haloumi, char-grilled Exmouth prawns and a few more vegetarian dishes. When we inquired when more of the meat and seafood dishes were coming out the waitress explained that they had run out of most of the those dishes. A few meat dishes did come out and they were delicious, I especially liked the grilled lamb (simple but tasty) but I would have liked the barramundi, caramelised pork and a few others. Funnily enough they didn't offer to lower the price to reflect the lack of more expensive options?

This is the fifth time I've been to Gypsy Tapas House over the years and each time they seem to get tighter with their assortment of dishes on the banquet menu. Although the menu probably lists about 25 dishes they usually bring out a small fraction of that and the service has definitely gone downhill. Given the lack of decent restaurants that cater for medium sized groups in Fremantle I will be going back but it's a shame my once favourite restaurant in Fremantle is now a little more mediocre.

Come here if you don't mind a luck dip dining experience!

Had the $40 buffet and it was incredible! Food is excellent and very delicious. A bit pricey but if you go with a few friends you get a lot of food. Better to go to the second seating for the buffet.
